The next day was Sunday. That meant I was off of work and could sleep in till noon, so I did just that.

I started to toss and turn and I heard Alyssa tell Ethan she'd be back. I jumped up to try and get her to wait for me, but I heard the front door shut. Shit, I didn't wanna be home alone with Ethan after last night. I was embarrassed about crying in front of him.

When my stomach started to rumble, I finally left my safe place and went to the kitchen. Savannah and Ethan were still sitting on the couch watching TV. I didn't know whether that was good or bad. One one hand, Ethan wouldn't be focused on me. On the other hand, Savannah was present... Mega eye roll.

I wasn't too hungry so I just made toast. I sat on the other chair in the living room and the couple looked over at me.

"Morning, guys," I said.

"Morning," Ethan said. Savannah just waved. It got awkward fast so I tried to make conversation.

"So, what do you guys have planned for today?"

"Going shopping, right babe?" Ethan said.

Savannah smiled, "Of course. Why don't I help you get ready babe?"

"Good idea," They both hopped up and went to his room. I could hear the sounds of them kissing before they shut the door. I cringed and pulled out my phone. When I was in the middle of commenting on an Instagram post, Tanner started calling me on Snapchat. What could he possibly want?

"Hello," I answered dryly.

"Harper..."

"What do you want?" I asked, clearly annoyed.

"I'm so sorry about last night."

"I knew nobody there. I had to wake my friend up to come get me!"

"I can explain..."

"Well, you'd better make it quick," I was getting impatient.

"It was my sister," he began, "She's been really sick lately and my mom called telling me I needed to get to the hospital ASAP. I thought she was gone, but she's actually fully recovered."

Oh my god, I feel like the asshole now... "Tanner, I'm so sorry... I didn't realize."

"No, you have nothing to be sorry for. I should've given you a heads up or brought you with me. I was just in a drunken panic... I went back to try and find you but couldn't. I'm an asshole."

"No, no. It's fine. Your sister's health is super important. Plus I found a way home."

He sighed in relief, "How can I make it up to you?"

"You could take me on another date. No parties though."

He chuckled, "No parties, got it. Hey, I gotta go. They're discharging my sister."

"Oh okay, I'm sending love your way. Talk to you soon?"

"Of course. Bye, Harper."

"Bye."

Ethan and Savannah left his room after a century. Their lips were red and I noticed a faint mark on his neck. Weak ass hickey... I wanted to roll my eyes so hard they'd get stuck.

"We're heading out," Ethan said. I simply nodded and they left. I got up, put my plate into the sink, and made my way back into the living room. The door flung open and I thought it was Ethan, but it was Alyssa. She had groceries in her arms.

"Hey, Lys," I said and grabbed some of the bags.

"Hey, sleepyhead. What happened last night?"

I sighed, "I'll tell you while we put this stuff away." We carried everything into the kitchen and started sorting it into the cabinets. "As you know, I had a date with the hot guy from the club, Tanner."

"Yeah, how'd it go?"

"He took me to a festival-"

She gasped, "A festival? Cute." She was a sucker for any and everything that was 'cute.'

"I know right? After that he told me his friend was throwing a party, so we went," I put the milk in the fridge.

She put bananas on the counter, "Uh-huh?"

"The place was packed and I was dancing so long I didn't realize he wasn't next to me anymore. I found his friend and he told me that Tanner had fuckin' left."

Alyssa's brows furrowed, "He fucking left you there by yourself? Why didn't you call me? How did you get home?"

"Yeah, and you were working so I called Ethan."

"Ethan picked you up?"

"Yeah, I knew Adonis wouldn't let me hear the end of it. I'd tell you the rest but it's embarrassing."

"What else happened?" she asked anyway. I sighed.

"I started crying in front of him," I said. Alyssa gave me a sympathetic look, "And he wiped the tears away. You know I hate crying in front of people."

"At least you know Ethan gives a shit."

"I guess you're right. Tanner called me like 20 minutes ago, though."

"The hell did he want?"

"Turns out his sister was really sick and in the hospital and his mom called him there last night."

"Shit, is she alright?"

"He thought she'd passed but she actually made a full recovery. He called to apologize for leaving. I couldn't really be mad at that. If it were you I'd leave too."

Alyssa smiled and hugged me tightly, "Love you."

"Love you too, Lys," I smiled and we pulled away.

"I'm making you some of my famous spaghetti," she sang.

"Hell yeah!" My bestie was truly the best.

A/N: Happy 4th y'all!
