'You bought another book?' my dad asked, examining its cover.
'Yeah... it has been a while.'
'You think you can finish this big book?'
'Hey! I have read big books before!'
'Your wish,' he said and set the book back on the table.
The movie finally began. We had been sitting through nonstop ads, waiting for the bloody movie to begin.
Well over two hours passed and the afternoon heat began to set in. The movie finally wrapped and I for one was happy that it did.
'What a rubbish movie,' dad commented, yawning.
What the hell!, I thought. 'If you didn't like the movie, we could have watched the cricket match!'
'Yeah, but our team was loosing.'
He was right, it should have been over by now but I highly doubt we wanted to know who exactly won.
'I guess either way we won't be satisfied.'
'Speaking of which, how is your work going?' he asked.
Clever. 'It is... going.'
'That says nothing. Listen, if you want, you guys can join the job soon. You don't have to wait for two months.'
I paused, making sure I got my thought outright, 'we are trying but Kaashi is insistent that we try for two entire months.'
'How is it going for her? Any new auditions?'
'Not after the one a week ago. It is hard to get auditions without any actual experience in that field.'
He sighed dully and finally got up, 'I am going to go out now. Will be back before evening.'
'What about lunch?'
'I have prepared it. But I will be having outside,' he said and walked into his room.
I sat back on my chair, frowning. Even on weekends, he manages to stay away from home, leaving me alone in the house. Just as I sat there feeling a bit down, somebody or someone decided to give me a call. It was Kaashi, only Kaashi. No one else calls.
'Hello,' I answered.
'Hey, watch you doing?' she asked.
'Sitting in front of the TV. Thinking about lunch.'
'Nice. Nice... listen, I got some cool news.'
'Yeah?'
'Yeah. We got a job offer.'
That was certainly unexpected. Who would want to offer us a job?
'Seriously?'
'Seriously! I haven't got a lot of details, to be honest.'
Despite the last comment, a surge of energy suddenly flooded me. 'Tell me what you know.'
'So, you know Radhika, right?'
'Yeah. I do.'
'So someone approached with a request. They wanted people with a quote on quote creative minds and she suggested us.'
I remained silent. It felt very strange to me. Either she was hiding something or Radhika was.
'Hello? You there?' she asked.
'Yeah! I am here!'
'So what do you think?'
'Hold on,' it felt strange because neither I nor Kaashi has particularly expressed our 'creative minds'. So I wasn't quite sure why Radhika would have suggested to us. 'Did she say anything else?'
'Not really, just the place and person we were to meet.'
'Don't you feel it is strange about her?'
'Not really. I told her about our situation. I think this is her help.'
oh! it all made sense now. But another doubt popped up into my head. did she set unrealistically high expectations for us?
'Oh! Alright... we can give a try.'
'Cool! The place is called La Mira. It is about fifteen-minute walk from your place.'
'Yeah. I do know that place, never visited it though. I think it is new.'
'I don't know about that. Anyways, the woman we are meeting, her name is Siri Vennila.'
'Alright.'
'Tomorrow eleven am.'
'We will meet there?'
'Sure.'
'Alright then. See you there.'
'Ba-bye.'
I cut the call and began to ponder. So there was this lady now expecting us to do some job for her. I wasn't quite how it was going to turn out but disappointment is something we were used to by now.
What was more interesting is this woman, Siri Vennila. Little did I know then, that this woman would become a big part of my life.
