*Alexis's POV*
We had got back onto the train tracks, Teddy and Vern walking ahead of Chris, Gordie and I. Teddy and Vern were singing Lollipop and dancing, just having a good time. Meanwhile Chris, Gordie and I walked in silence.
"Hey I got some Winstons, took em' off my old man's dresser. One a piece for after supper." Chris said breaking the silence.
"Yeah that's cool." Gordie said quietly.
"Yeah, that's when a cigarette tastes best. After supper." Chris agreed.
"Right." Gordie responded quietly.
"You okay Gordie?" I asked Gordie, putting my hand on his shoulder.
"Do you guys think I'm weird?" Gordie asked Chris and I.
"Definitely." Chris answered immediately.
"No." I answered.
"No guys seriously, am I weird?" Gordie asked again, stopping us from walking.
"Yeah but so what? Everybody's weird." Chris answered again.
We continued to walk, the silence returning.
"You guys ready for school?" Chris asked us, breaking the silence once again.
"No." Gordie and I answered in unison.
"Junior High. You know what that means. By next June we'll all be split up." Chris said, catching me and Gordie by surprise.
"Why would you say that?" I asked.
"What are you talking about, why would that happen?" Gordie asked agreeing with me.
"It's not gonna be like grammar school that's why. You and Alexis will be taking your college courses and me, Teddy and Vern will all be taking shop courses with the rest of the retards making ashtrays and birdhouses. You two are gonna meet a lot of new people, smart people." Chris explained.
"What the hell Chris?" I said aggravated.
"Meet a lot of pussies is what you mean." Gordie shot.
"No man, don't say that. Don't even think that." Chris scolded.
"I'm not going in with the pussies forget it!" Gordie said.
"Neither am I, screw that!" I retaliated.
"Well then you're assholes!" Chris shot at us.
"What's asshole about wanting to be with your friends?" I asked.
"It's asshole if your friends drag you down! You two hang with us you'll just be another wise guy with shit for brains." Chris answered.
"I mean, you could be successful Alexis, and you could be a real writer some day Gordie." Chris continued.
"Fuck writing! I don't wanna be a writer. It's stupid, it's a stupid waste of time!" Gordie retaliated.
"I won't even make it to my twenties because of my fucking dad!" I retaliated.
"Why would you two say that?!" Chris asked us.
"It's the truth for me Chris!" I yelled.
"The only reason you two believe this shit is because of your dad's!" Chris yelled.
"Bullshit!" Gordie yelled.
"Bull true! I know how your dads feel about you two! They don't give a shit about you!" Chris said.
