*Alexis's POV*
We continued on walking for a few more hours after the leeches situation. Eventually we came across train tracks with woods on both sides of the train tracks. We all stopped, looking around. Had we finally arrived?
"Coming through the woods I bet we saved over an hour." Chris said.
"Teddy?" Gordie called out.
"Yeah?" He responded.
"Is this the Back Harlow Road?" Gordie asked, pointing to a path that went off the train tracks.
"Yeah." Teddy confirmed.
"That Brower kid must be around here someplace. Teddy, you and Vern watch the left side of the tracks. We'll take the right." Chris instructed.
"Alright." Teddy agreed.
We began looking around for the body. Scanning through the woods for any sign of him.
"There he is! I see him! Look! Look over there I see him!" Vern yelled out.
All of us ran over to Vern, only to see legs sticking out from under some bushes. It was him.
None of us could breathe. Somewhere under those bushes was the rest of Ray Brower.
Chris pushed past all of us, jogging over to the body. The rest of us followed behind Chris.
The train had knocked Ray Brower out of his keds just like it had knocked the life out of his body.
Chris picked up a stick, moving the branches off of Ray's body. To reveal the entirety of Ray's body. His face cut up and bruised in a few spots, it was horrible to see.
The kid wasn't sick. The kid wasn't sleeping. The kid was dead.
We all looked down at his body. We had finally gotten here. But now that we were here it was like our worlds had changed.
"Lets look for some long branches. We'll build him a stretcher." Chris instructed.
Teddy, Vern and I walked off to find some branches. But Gordie sat down on a fallen tree trunk, staring at Ray's body.
"Gordie, are you okay?" I asked.
Gordie was silent. He just kept staring at Ray's lifeless body.
"Why did you have to die?" Gordie asked as he looked at Ray's body.
"What's the matter with Gordie?" Vern asked.
I instantly turned around, rushing to Gordie's side.
"Nothing. Why don't you guys just go over there and look for some branches okay?" Chris said to Vern and Teddy.
"Okay." Teddy agreed, him and Vern walking off.
Chris came over to where Gordie and I were. I was sitting to Gordie's left, keeping my arm around his shoulders. Chris sat down to the right of Gordie on the tree trunk.
"Why did he have to die? Why did Denny have to die? Why?" Gordie asked barely above a whisper.
Chris and I know understood. Seeing Ray's body had reminded him of his brother Dennis. I couldn't speak, I didn't know how to help Gordie.
"I don't know." Chris responded.
"It should've been me." Gordie whispered.
"Gordie no." I instantly spoke up.
