I was working in the fields when I heard my name come on over the intercoms. I had a basket full of corn that I had picked from the hours before. The sky was a light blue with just a little bit of cloud cover. The birds were flying above our heads and everything was at piece. The ground was soft and the smell of the field was musky. Corn particles filled the air like spores in the jungle. I could feel my boots sink into the ground, about a inch.
"Rhett Anderson, please report to the medical facility for routine injection ASAP" stated the intercom.
I handed my neighbor my basket and began my way out of the fields. When I got to the concrete that surrounded the fields I whipped the mud off of my old stained boots. I could see the town before my eyes. Perfectly built houses that have been kept up to date, working electricity, as we'll as a working economy trading system much like the one back in Sanctuary. I began down the road that lead to the medical facility. I have been in this place for probably six months by now. Even with the rough start they treat my like a family member. They tell everyone they let in a rule that we have to live by. Everyone here is you family, that means no lying, no stealing, and to give your life for your family.
We do have to deal with grim's and bandits every now and then. You can't argue with that though, that's the world we live in now and you have to except it. We are partnered with the military when I comes to funds. We provide the military with food and clean water and in return we are provided electricity. Surrounding the city is a large twenty foot concrete wall. On top of the was is a walk path for soldiers and militants with a chain link fence to protect them from incoming projectiles. Most of the houses in our sector were made of red brick. There are three sectors. The housing sector, marketing sector, and military sector. All the little who were born and grew up in the the camp wanted to join the military sector when they became of age. As for me, I've seen enough death and am glad to be at peace.
I reached the end of the street that was a corner turning left. I could see the medical facility. It was the hospital I tried so desperately to escape six months ago. The double doors still remained and I could just see how stupid I must of looked when I got tazed by Kedryn. I could still kind of feel the sting but I disregard it. I wasn't used to the life they have here. At first I didn't want to except it. But once you get used to the hot food and soft beds it's ok. The door was rusted but they kept applying a white paint to it every week.
I pushed the doors open and saw the lobby before my eyes. In the lobby there where chairs, magazines, benches, anything you would find in a hospital lobby really. I walked up to the reception counter to sign myself in. The receptionist was a skinny Hispanic girl. She had black hair and brown eyes.
"I'm here for the injection" I said softly as she looked down at a magazine. She looked up from the magazine and in my eyes.
"Third floor, second to last room on the right."
I nodded my head and said thank you. I turned around and walked over to the elevator which is didn't know how they got it to work again. I pushed the button and it lighted up with the color blue. I waited for some time until the doors opened. I stepped inside the grey elevator only to be the only one there. I pressed the third floor button and it carried me up. There wasn't any music which I should be thankful for, I can't stand elevator music!
The doors opened to the smell of a air freshened hall. I continued on down the hall which had blue and white tile flooring and white with red stripped walls. There where also railing on either sides of the walls. I saw the room the woman directed me to enter. The entrance was a black door and it had a orange glow coming from underneath the door. Wasn't really the colors you would want to make someone comfortable in. I reached for the doorknob and without touching it, the door opened. On the other side of the door was the doctor I met the first time I was brought here. His name was Serrano.
