The pair of young demigods packed as quickly as possible, Will grabbing clothes (he was, admittedly, the only one of the two who bothered to fold laundry) and Nico gathering toiletries and entertainment. They packed in 20 minutes, tops, and Nico figured the two gods waiting for them could wait a little longer.

"Will."

The blond barely looked up from ensuring they had everything packed and ready to go.

"Yeah?"

Nico sighed.

"Sunshine."

Will actually looked up this time. "Death boy."

Nico smiled and sat down cross-legged next to his boyfriend. "What was that 'project' Dad was talking about?" Try as he might, the son of Hades couldn't help but be curious.

Will blushed again. "It's just something I asked Hades about the other day. It's not a project, per se. Just something I'm planning."

Nico raised an eyebrow. "You willingly went down to the Underworld alone to ask Dad a question? Okay. Can I know what this thing you are planning is, or is it a secret?"

"It's a secret," Will said, grinning cheekily but still blushing. "Don't worry, though, you'll find out soon enough."

Nico sighed exasperatedly but let it go. Instead of pressing his boyfriend farther, he pulled them both to their feet and pecked Will on the lips for good measure.

Will grabbed their suitcase with one hand and wrapped the other around his boyfriend's waist. "This quest sounds like fun. A whole world of magic? I can't wait!" Will said, his face lighting up with excitement.

Nico smiled softly at him. "It does sound interesting. We should probably head back, I wouldn't want to keep Dad and Hecate waiting too long."

Will looked at his boyfriend worriedly. "You've been shadow traveling alot today, will you be okay with another jump?"

"Yeah, I'll be fine, Sunshine," Nico reassured him. "I won't be dissolving into shadows, if that's what you're worried about."

"When we get there, you will rest, doctor's-"

"Orders, got it," Nico interrupted, pulling them through the shadows one last time, back to the Underworld.

Hecate really needed to take a few chill pills, in Nico's opinion, because the goddess was angrily pacing around the throne room when the demigods returned. Nico cleared his throat. The goddess's head whipped around.

"Finally!" she cried, rushing towards them. "Demigods are so slow!" She gestured for the couple to stand just in front of her, and they obliged. Hecate pressed her palms to their foreheads. The goddess of magic closed her eyes and muttered something under her breath.

Nico felt it first. Just a trickle of chill, really, like a stream of water rolling down his face. It parted around his nose and mouth, flowing over his chin and down his throat before finally pooling in a ring around his heart. He could feel it pulsing, as though just under his skin, and he shuddered at the strange sensation. Next to him, Will seemed to be feeling a similar discomfort.

Suddenly, the cold ring imploded like a supernova, ricochetting to every corner of his body and sending a massive headache pounding at his brain. Nico staggered and groaned, barely managing to keep his feet. Will wasn't so lucky, unused to pain as he was, and would've toppled over if Nico hadn't caught him. They leaned against each other for a moment, panting.

Will drew in a huge, shuddering breath and let it out slowly, puffing out his cheeks. "What did that do?" he asked curiously.

"You both have magic now, as well as a bit of knowledge about the wizarding world," Hecate explained. "Now, are you ready to leave?"

Will glanced at Nico for confirmation. "Yep. All set," he said.

"Good. I wish you well, demigods, try not to fail me." With that reassuring statement, Hecate clapped her hands once and Nico and Will were sent spinning off to wherever Hecate sent them.
