"Hello class my name is Mrs Vanderbilt and I am your Art instructor." The teacher announced in front of the class. I slide into the only available seat, next to Matt. "Today we're going to be doing a partner project, I will be picking the pairs." She added.
Carter & Marissa, Sophia & Lacey, Joseph & Alyssa, Rose & Austin, Matthew & our newest student, Catherine.
I look over at Matt who's grinning like an idiot. I hear a group of girls sigh in disappointment.
"Find your partner and begin working on your project! It's due on Thursday!" The art teacher says. I read the instructions on the board carefully.
You and your partner must create a painting that describes the beautiful art of Love itself.
"Okay Espinosa I guess we're doing this project together, sadly." I say.
"Maybe we can sketch a drawing of an rollercoaster that describes the ups, downs, and swerves in love." I add productively.
"I was thinking of the same thing." Matthew replies.
"Sure you were." I say sarcastically.
"Meet me in the courtyard after school, new friend." He adds smirking mischievously.
"But we aren't even friends, we are simply two mutuals working on one project." I shoot back.
"Shots fired. Just meet me there okay?" He says surrendering both hands.
The bells rings and Mrs Vanderbilt dismisses us from class

matts pov;
Something about Catherine makes her different I just can't lay my finger on it.
Normally any girl would flirt with me at every chance and moment they have with me. But Catherine she keeps her distance and I'm trying to figure her out like a missing puzzle piece. I am determined to get the girl I want and Catherine is that girl. Every minute I spend with her I fall more in love with her voice and her charming smile. Maybe I'm just going crazy, I'm not suppose to feel this beating in my heart. I've only known this girl for a day. A SINGLE DAY, and im already hooked. Just fight the feelings im having until it's the right time. She can't find out about this, ever. Im knocked out of my thoughts from a familiar voice.
"MATTHEW!" I hear a girly voice calling my name.
"Lauren." I say quietly. "What are you doing?" I add.
"Are you coming to my birthday party this weekend babe?!" She says resting her neck in my chest.
"Lauren, we broke up 2 months ago." I reply annoyed.
"What? It's a crime to go to your friends birthday party?" She says casually and hands me an envelope.
"So you'll go??" She says energetically.
"I guess." I respond.
"Fabulous! Thanks babe!" Lauren speaks and lays a quick but rough kiss on my cheek. I rub my cheek and keep walking.
"Hey Matt." My best bud, Carter says casually.
"Sup." I nod and look at him.
"Who's the new girl? Is she a new girlfriend too?" Carter jokes.
"Not yet."
"Yet?" Carter replies and adds "Bruh you just met this girl today." He shakes his head and pats my back.
"She's a beaut." I respond smiling at the thought of her.
"Good luck on getting your girl." Carter laughs a little. We perform a complicated handshake and go our separate ways.

catherine's pov ;
It's after school and I'm waiting patiently for Matt in the courtyard.
I spot Matt's deep brown eyes and pretend to be occupied with my phone.
"Hello Waters." He says once he arrives.
"Hello Espinosa." I repeat mocking him. He grabs my hand and runs towards the football field.
"I thought we were gonna do the Art project?!" I yell/scream.
"We'll get to that later. I want to show you something." He says calmly.
"Okay?" I say still confused. Once we arrive at the field Matt finds a seat on the bleachers.
"This is what I live for." He says admiring the view.
"If you don't mind I ask, why are we here?" I reply.
"I want to get to know you before I begin this project with you." He responds. "Tell me about yourself." He adds.
"From the beginning?" I ask.
"From the beginning." He says quietly.
"First let me text my mom.." I say before I begin.
catherine - hey mom im going to be staying with a classmate for a few hrs for a project ;)
mom - okay! don't stay out too long. is it a he or a she?
catherine - uh it's a he.
mom - whats his name?
catherine - matthew.
mom - well okay. I want you home before 9:00? am I clear?
catherine - yes. bye ily
mom - okay. bye sweetie ilyt
I lock my phone and shove it in my rear pocket.
"Okay now I can start." I say a bit nervously. Matt looks at me attentively with his hazel orbs. I smile a little and flow the memories through my head.
