Tomas and his sister had been playing in the forbidden forest since they were small. The only reason it was forbidden was that during the demon wars a dark Lords tomb had been constructed somewhere in the forest. This didn't scare Tomas. He had explored every inch of the forest and he never saw anything that resembled a tomb.
Today was the day. His sister, whom the family found out had strong magical affinity, was returning from the great college. Tomas himself was not blessed with the gifts of magic. He however was blessed with other gifts. He was a master swordsman. He spent years training, one day hoping to go on a grand adventure.
This was of no consequence now! Tomas was taking his sister to a spot in the forest. It was a beautiful clearing in the trees, with a great elvish Craddle tree in the middle. The tree had slight magical properties that made them glisten in the sun light.
Tomas prepared a basket of fruits, and pastries from the village baker. He was excited to finally see his younger sister once again in 7 years. When they were younger she had been his very best friend. After she was set on a course of magic by a local wizard they grew very far apart. Now given this opportunity Tomas wanted to mend the strained relationship.
It had been a long 7 years since his sister left. His parents had both died from plague, his childhood teacher had become a marked terrorist by the capital. Tomas expected the college to release his sister for the funeral, but he received no word of her coming. Finally after 7 years a note came for him.
It read:
My brother Tomas,
I am returning to our village in 5 days. I have completed my training and wish to return home. I wish I could have come sooner but the Masters would not allow it. I wish to see you soon and hear stories of your adventures.Yours truly,
ReilinWhen he recieved such news Tomas knew that he had to try to turn things back to the way they were. He wanted to spend time with his sister the way they did when they were kids. Relive old memories. Though both of them had grown from the time when they pretended to be heroes in the forest, returning there would allow him to properly catch up with her uninterrupted.
Tomas waited patiently in the village square for the daily carriage to arrive. Once a day a carriage would arrive from the capital carrying goods and travlers a like. Tomas looked to the horizon trying to get a glimpse of the carriage. Finally, after waiting what seemed like forever, he could see the faded red color of the cart aproaching. He stood ready with his basket full of goodies. He was ready to recieve Reilin the moment she stepped from the carriage. The carriage came to a stop infront of Tomas, and the door opened.
It had been 7 years since Tomas had seen Reilin but he knew there was no way that he would not recognize her. She had hair that was dark as the night sky, and eyes greener then the grass that growed in the fields. However the thing that Tomas knew would set her apart from everyone was the patch that he had given her before she left. It was that of their father's father's patch. Back when he fought in the war.
People began departing the carriage. Tomas knew that only 12 people could fit inside so his sister would definitely be on this carriage. After several people got off Tomas grew a bit worried. He knew that there was no other way for his sister to get home. Finally the last person unboarded. She dawned a black cloak and trousers. The manner in which she walked resembled that of a troubled warrior hardened by time on the battlefield.
Tomas could not recognize the woman as his sister at first. Her demeanor was all wrong. The one thing that remained of his sister was the patch. Its vibrant colors stood out of the darkness that now clouded his sister. When their eyes finally locked it seemed as the world stopped.
"I am back brother,"
