"Your majesty in an instant, monsters have spawned all over the castle and the surrounding city. Naturally the palace has not been spared. The east side has been completed taken by the monsters all people working there are dead. Guards are feircely guarding the gate and entries to the throne room, however I would add it is a loosing battle." The commander explained to the king.
Everyone had been awakened in the night by the emergency bell. Princess Syre awoke, and put on her armor. She was never one for the fancy dresses that her family tried to put her in. If it were up to her she would be sleeping in the soldiers barracks defending the kingdom. But she knew she needed to keep up her apearence just as her father willed it. Her father, the king, would not hear anything about her not being his precious flower. Syre entered the throne room and took her place next to her older brother. Everyone looked extremely concerned. Syre observed the room.
The king stroked his beard "I want to hear the nature of the enemy from Plas the court wizard,"
A feeble old man stepped out from behind the noble men.
"Sire. The nature of these monsters is unknown. We have never encountered such begins. However, the ash covered nature of their skin suggests something that I would be weary to say around."
The king slammed his fist on the arm of his chair.
"Speak old man!"
Plas took a breath,
"Sir, in history ash covered monsters such as the ones attacking, can be only be found in the demon war stories,"
Everyone gasped. Syre's brother laughed,
"You mean to tell me the demons of those bed time stories have returned? I should have you hanged for such foolery!"
The king raised his hand and the prince backed off.
"If what you say is true what are our options?"
Syre knew what Plas was going to say.
"Run, and not in an organized fashion, like cattle. With all the wizards and knights in this room we may be able to get you to the stables. But we have to move now!"
Then a guard burst in.
"The front gate has fallen!"
The king stood up and gave the order
"Run!"
There was silence in the throne room for a moment, then everyone started moving in every direction. The commander and a couple of guards, and two witches were trying to force the door closed, while other guards continued to try and escort the royal family. Syre didn't like being hearded like cattle. She wanted to be fighting alongside the soldiers. She still needed to keep the face. She tried her best to be the terrified princess, screaming as she watched as the ash covered beings spilled into the room in all directions. They came through doors, windows, and a broken wall.
One of the guards was at a door at the end of a room usually used by only the maids.
"Your majesties, through here!" He yelled
As he opened the door more of the monsters came spilling in.
"Shink!"
Syre's brother pushed the king out of the way as several creatures pilled on to him. Through his screams a distinct, long live the king was heard. The queen broke down.
"My son! My only son!" She cried out, as she ran out towards the pile.
"NO!" The king bellowed as he dove after her, but it was too late for all of them a group of monsters had already jumped on them.
Their screams of agony echoed through the room. The soldiers started yelling about the king being dead. A normal princess would be crying over the loss of her family, probably would jump into the death pile herself, but Syre was not the gentle gem she always showed. She detested the crown, and everything that came with it. She often found herself wishing for the very situation she was in now.
"A princess can't go on adventures, and definitely not be practicing magic!" Her father would always say
Now look where did that leave you father? Mother? Brother?
Plas saw the princess grinning. He knew of her true nature, she was truly terrifying. In an instant the roof above the princess caved. As if a a storm started a rain of rocks fell on to the ash covered monsters in from of her, crushing the begins. Plas flew over to his student.
"Princess you may have subdued them here but I believe it's time to move."
Syre never felt more alive in her life. Real fighting, and real danger!
"Right, I would think your hide away on the Eastern coast would be safe. Even if the demons spawned there they would not have discovered such a place, but let's remove the creatures from the palace ground first"
The rubble began to shake.
Plas lowered his head and used his magic to fly themselves down to the ground and began battling the monsters.
