Tomas had packed his things and imidiatley took off for the capital. He had been to the capital once when he was small, but it was before Reilin could even walk, and he barely could remember. The one thing that everyone knew was the way to the capital. There was a very large direct road that went across the land to the edge of the kingdoms territory. Once this road was found getting to the kingdom was a straight shot. It was finding this long straight road. Tomas's village was far from the large road. Only experienced journey man make the trip to the capital alone. Tomas was far from a journey man. He had been to some of the surrounding villages but always by horse cart. Never had he tried to walk. But alas! He had to get help. Getting his sister back was a seemingly impossible task.
Tomas made his way to the fountain square of his village. Many of the buildings were either burning, or had burned down. Bodies of people that Tomas knew were littered about the square. He could hear crying and shouting from all around him. Then from behind him he heard a voice.
"TOMAS!"
His head swiveled around. Standing before him was the town cheif. He was an old man, but he probably could win a fight against any man.
"WHERE IN SHINK'S NAME WERE YOU?!" He yelled
Tomas stopped. Then faced the cheif. It's true under normal circumstances Tomas would have been helping fight these beasts. But this was not normal. Sorry cheif my sister, who I haven't seen in years, turned out to be evil and is trying to summon demons and I was trying to stop her? Like that was going to work.
"I am sorry cheif I got attacked in my own home. Those Shink hating beings knocked me right out."
The cheif seemed to buy it.
"Those beasts took us by surprise! The weird thing is every time I tried to kill one of those bastards they simply healed up and kept on killing!"
Tomas needed to leave the village behind. There were much larger things afoot! However he could not leave the village without trying to help. It was not in a hero's nature to leave. But on the same notion Tomas had to get to the capital as soon as possible. The information he had was invaluable, and only he could deliver it. Just then a small boy walked up to Tomas and tugged his shirt. When Tomas looked again he recognized the child. He was the child of the baker. His face was specked with dirt and he had a large abresian on the side of his head.
"You must stay and help the people of Hareg Tomas. We need you."
Tomas could not face the guilt. He could not simply leave his friends and neighbors behind, but at the same time he could not let Reilin go. He drew a breath in, held it for a second and then let it out clearing his mind. Reilin was already gone. He could do nothing more at the moment to save, or stop her. He glanced down again at the young boy. He seemed to have been crying for a good long while before Tomas arrived.
Tomas turned to the cheif
"What needs to be done?"Within a few moments Tomas and the cheif were wandering around the village looking for survivors. Most everyone had gathered in the market square but they feared that some where too afraid to come out of their homes. After a few days all fifty three people were accounted for, fifteen of which had been killed and the rest injured, with two having slim chaces of survival.
The crowd gathered in the square was a flurry of emotions. Some people were crying, others simply were shells of their former selves, others trying to console others. Tomas heard that one of the local girls lost both her parents and the monsters destroyed their home. Finally one man from the crowd spoke up.
"What in Shinks name happened here!" He cried out.
Everyone fell silent. No one knew what had happened and what would happen. The cheif in his ancient voice broke the silence.
"Monsters. The land opened up and released foul unkillable beings on to us,"
This statement was again met with silence. Then another voice called out from the crowd
"Where in Shinks name was Tomas!?"
Tomas didn't know how to answer. He was the only one in the village who practiced anysort of swordcraft. He never was given an official title of protector but everyone simply assumed he would step up to the plate.
He needed to think quick he didn't was anyone looking to him any further.
"The beasts got to me. Knocked me right out in the forest."
The cheif immidiately backed him up.
"Tomas would have been here, but just like everyone else he was overpowered by the beasts, now I understand no one probably wants to go home, or has a home to go to. This is why the gathering hall will be convereted into a bunkhouse, now go gather up your belongings and come back here before dark"
The crowd slowly dispersed back into seperate groups. Tomas was about to head home when he was grabbed by the arm. He turned and was greeted by Crank. He had gone mad many years ago. He tightly grabbed Tomas's arm
"I saw you," He cooed
"Crank leave me be!" Tomas said trying to shove him off
Crank's grip was iron clad.
"I saw you in the forest with the girl"
Tomas began to feel a chill down his spine.
"I saw you with a golden sword,"
