Ailen sat at the doc while his companion argued with a fisherman. He was of the Galorian race. A proud people always very fiercely defending there rights, the lizardmen never handed anything over.
"Now listen here friend I need to go to the capital and warn the king of the horrific attacks,"
The being hissed
"Not in my boat you won't,"
Cora threw her hands up,
"You're boat is the only one on the island that hasn't been destroyed,"
The lizardman laughed
"And I would like to keep it that way,"
At this point Cora had enough. She stormed back over to Ailen and her sister. Ailen gave a chuckle
"Give up?"
"Shut your shink hole mouth"
Ailen then stood up and walked over to the man.
"Listen I already told- AILEN!? Oh is good to see you!"
Cora's jaw dropped. How could a lizardman and a human be so close. And this one in particular? His clothing, and white scales indicated that he was a member of one of the northern Lizardmen tribes, beyond the peaks of the old gods.
"Ah Ra'hatak my good friend. How's your mother?"
The creature laughed
"Ah well she is strong as a serpent unyeilding,"
"I am sure, I am sure. I remember she made that wonderful eel stew the last time I visted you down south,"
"Ok ok, what can I do you for Ailen?"
Ailen pointed at his companion
"She wants a ride to the mainland. Something about warning the king!"
the large green creature stomped his tail.
"Ok I'll tell you what! I will take you to the mainland. I actually want to go all the way down south. These creatures that spawned all over the place seemed to become trouble some. I leave in an hour. If I don't see you then I am gone,"
"Yes of course naturally my friend,"
Ailen turned back around and walked back to a shocked Cora.
"How did you-" Ailen cut her off
"Look when you've traveled as much as I have then you meet people. Ra'hatak and we're old buddies since I got him out of a jam with his village. Anyway, we have passage now, be happy! I am going to get a drink wait for him here"
Ailen left the girls and walked to what seemed like the remains of the harbor tavern. Clearly there had been a fire or something of the sort. The damage was quite low and there was a young boy tending the bar.
Aiken sat next to a burly man. He was slumped over the bar. In his meaty right hand he had a pint. His once elegant fur cloak was torn to shreds. He was mumbling some nonsense that Ailen could not understand.
The tender approached Ailen. Upon further inspection the boy was a demihuman. He had large ears coming out of the top of his head. "I am sorry sir unfortunately all we have is ale," Ailen raised his hand indicating that he didn't want to speak. he grabbed a coin from his pocket put it on the counter, and quietly drank. He turned and looked out onto the water. The tavern was built into the side of the rocky wall that surrounded the cove where the dock was. Ailen had been at this very dock just a while ago. He arrived at the dock when he first arrived on the island to do the job.
In that moment everything stopped.
The job.
Ailen failed the job. Not only that but he was heading back to the mainland. Surely the monsters haven't killed the entire thieves guild. Ailen starting flashes of Cora and her sister being beaten and sold as slaves, while he was strung up and left for dead in a troll den.
"Ailen get up Ra'hatak is ready to go!"
Ailen stirred slowly.
"Shink you smell horrible. Luckily I got us all a change of clothing,"
Ailen looked down. He had spilled the ale all over himself. He looked around. The burly man was still slumped over the bar, and the demihuman boy was cleaning some of the rubble in the corner. What horrible vision. Was the ale that strong?
"Yes I am good lead on" He said sheepishly.
Cora had to drag him to the dock where the lizard man was waiting
"What happened to him?"
Cora put her hand to her mouth as if she was drinking.
"I see... AILEN! YOU ARE OK WE ARE GOING NOW"
Ailen swatted the air.
"Sure sure, just give me another ten minutes"
The lizard laughed. Once they were all on the boat they pushed off and began to drift out to sea.
