Why me?

God why me?

"Come on Evie, if you don't get out of this van you're going to be late to class".

I pretend not to hear a single word Percy had just said and instead look out the window refusing to make any eye contact with him.

"You don't want to be late to class on your first day at a new school do you?" Percy prods me as I pull my body away from him and a lump catches in my throat.

Percy continues to stare back at me quietly as I unsuccessfully try to bury my face in my hands and burst into tears.

"I'm not going, I can't. You don't know what it feels like. Everyone will stare" I sobbed as I tried to cover the remaining bits of my exposed face with my furry coat.

"Come on now sweetheart, don't be daft" Percy chuckled softly but even I could see the concern in the his eyes.

I remained silent knowing full well there was nothing I could do to stop Percy from doing his job. I watch helplessly as my chair is harnessed and restrained on to the ramp at the back of the van.

I wait sniffing and wiping my tears away as I feel the ramp lowering to the ground, yet I do not care until it hits the ground and the ramp stops in its tracks.

I feel a wave of nausea come on and I throw up my breakfast over the side of my wheelchair.

Percy shakes his head side to side in a troubled manner. He pushes my wheel chair off the ramp with ease and turns the chair around so he could look at me square in the face.

" You have to be strong baby girl'. Percy soothes as he gently pats my head.

"You come from a line of strong warriors, brave and fierce" Percy states defiantly as he continued to stare down at me.

"I am not a baby, I am seventeen" I sniffled as a smile spread across Percy's face.

"You will always be a baby in my eyes Evie" Percy states soothingly as he attaches my bag onto the back of my wheelchair.

I nod hesitantly as I start to ready myself slowly but surely towards the school's main office.

I look back at Percy as he gets back inside his van and gives me the thumbs up sign.

"Be strong" Percy mimes through the window and with a wink starts his van up.

Sadness sweeps over me as I watch his van glide out of the car park and back towards home.
