Pain and Suffering

I've seen thousands of

Years before these eyes

And millions of faces

Pass me by.

I've seen life

And laughed in the face

Of death,

But there's one theme

That seems to stay

Concrete throughout

Time.

Though there may be seven

Billion people on the earth below,

Two distinctions separate

Them.

Two very different kinds:

The ones who cry

And the ones who

Don't.

It is terrible to see those

Who cry,

Mourning for lost loved ones

How human-y wuman-y.

And yet,

Is it not worse

To see the

Dry eyes?

To see no tears

From those who don't mourn?

I have lost many

And much to time and space

And yet, the human race

Still remains a mystery.

With their insistency

Of detachment.

For these lives

I do cry,

Tears in the dark of night

When no one can see where they lie.

How many faces must I carry

To see the end of all this

Pain and suffering?

Far too many, it seems.
