I look back up to meet his gaze. There is no recognition in his cold, unfeeling eyes, but it is him.
"Ethan." I say in barely above a whisper before I am yanked back
Someone covers my mouth with their rough hands as another person ties my hands behind my back. I struggle and try to claw my way out of this person's grasp before I feel a cool metal barrel pressed against my temple. I stop fighting. I am thrown onto the hard forest floor and struggle to stand up with my arms tied behind my back. I looked frantically around me trying to find the boy that I had seen just seconds before. He was nowhere in sight. Neither was the boy that I had made my team member just days before. I was alone.
Well, unless you count the many men standing in front of me as company. They trained their guns on me as; who I could only assume to be the leader of this pack came forward. I had an uneasy feeling about him, not only because he had tied me up and left me on the ground. Once he came closer, I was able to figure out what exactly made me so uneasy about this man.
He was perfectly spotless. Not one trace of dirt, grime, or blood covered his skin. I glanced around the group and noticed that they were all... perfect. He knelt down in front of my face. I winced, expecting the blow of rancid breath to soon reach my nose, but was met with cool, minty, breath.
"What's your name?" He asked
I sat in silence. Partly because of stubbornness, but another larger part being that my mouth was tied with a rag.
"Oh right, sorry about that." The man said as he untied the rag
"Where is he?" I asked
"I'm afraid I don't know who you're talking about." He said
"The boy that I was with, the one you took." I said
"Maybe if you told me his name, I could track him down for you." He said
"What do you want?" I asked
"You need to come with us." He said
"No." I said firmly
"Well, here I thought we were going to be more mature about this. I mean it isn't everyday that you have a crowd of men training very large guns at you." He said
"You'd be surprised." I said
"Hm. I'm sure I would be." He said as he stood up and backed into the semicircle, "Get her up."
I looked around frantically for Grayson and the boy who was starting to look more like a figment of my imagination. I fought against the men who were trying to drag me along. I kicked as hard as I could at whatever body part was nearest to me. I screamed as loud as I could; maybe Grayson would be able to hear me.
"Shut her up." The man said, "She's just going to draw them to us."
I didn't stop fighting and screaming.
"Stop." I heard a familiar voice say
I looked up and stared straight at Ethan who had appeared like a ghost in front of me.
"Ethan, please, help me." I pleaded as I felt tears run down my face
He walked up to me slowly; staring at me with such intensity I almost forgot how to breathe. He stopped when he was only inches from my face.
"Ethan?" I asked losing hope that he knew who I was
The next thing I registered was Ethan's arm moving quickly towards my head with a foreign object in his hand. I felt a sharp pain as Ethan stabbed the foreign object into the side of my neck. My vision immediately became foggy and I could barely hold myself up anymore. He drugged me. Why would he do this to me? Right before I succumbed to the dark of the drug-induced sleep; I focused Ethan in my vision and said my last words.
"Who are you?" I slurred before collapsing on the hard forest floor and blacking out
