Chapter 33-Baby Scan

AVA'S POV

"I'm ready! Can someone come with me when I get my first scan?" Emily shouts from her room.

"I'll take you." I tell her and grab my phone and keys.

"Thanks." she replies and comes out her bedroom wearing a turquoise top and black leggings.

Roxy, Red, Em and I decided to fly back to Australia as school starts soon. We're currently in Em's house so we can drive to her first hospital appointment.

We say goodbye to the other two and hop in the car. I buckle up and start the engine before pulling out and driving off.

"So, Cal doesn't know yet?" I ask in disbelief.

"He's completely clueless." she tells me.

"Are you excited?"

"I'm really excited to see my baby but what if something goes wrong? I didn't plan on having this baby at 18 but I can't just have an abortion. Its still my baby and me and Cal will raise it. I would never kill it, I love my baby." she says and rubs her barely noticeable baby bump.

"You won't be saying that in 9 months." I chuckle.

"Oh hell no!" Emily laughs.

I pull into a parking space and switch the engine off. We climb out the car, I lock it and we walk to the front entrance. When the doors open we head to the front desk.

"Hello, how can I help you?" the receptionist asks.

"Um, appointment for Miss Emily Hughes." Em replies.

"Oh yes, follow me." she smiles and leads us to a seated area where a couple of other women with large bumps are sitting and as we walk over they look Emily up and down.

A door opens to show a small middle aged woman with blonde hair wearing a blue nurse dress.

"Emily Hughes?" she asks.

Emily shakily raises her hand and the nurse smiles at us before ushering us in her room. We walk into a room filled with drawings of the nurse. One in particular catches my eye.

Written on the picture is:

Ava aged 6, picture of Sue the nurse.

I smile at the very badly drawn woman with a side ponytail, one arm and her body's facing the front.

I turn around. "I haven't seen you in awhile Ava! How's your mum?" Sue asks.

I bite my lip. "She could be better." Sue looks concerned. "She's healthy its just her and dad recently divorced..."

"Oh dear... Right, hello Emily! I'm Sue and I'll be scanning you through your pregnancy. This is your first scan so all you have to do is lift your shirt up, I'll apply some cold gel on your stomach, I'll use this wand to scan your belly, you'll be able to wipe the gel off and we'll print a couple of copies of your scan off." Sue tells her. Emily nods and pulls her shirt up below her bra. She flinches as the cold gel touches her skin.

Soon Sue's putting the wand on and switching the monitor on. The screen shows up.

"There's it's head, body, feet and the umbilical cord." Sue points to the various parts if the blueberry sized baby growing inside Em's stomach.

Emily turns to me. "It's my baby Ava!" she screams. I chuckle at her enthusiasm.

"You're 7 weeks on." Sue tells her. ''How many copies do you want?"

"I'll have one, my mum will have one, you'll have one Ava, Red and Roxy will have one each and I'll have one for later when we see Cal. 6 please." Emily replies.

"How've ya been?" Luke asks through Skype.

"I've been really busy with E-" I cut myself off and slap my hand over my mouth.

"Why've you been busy? What's wrong Ava?" Luke asks suspicious.

"Busy with school uniform... Nothing else..." I lie.

"Ava..." Luke scowls.

"I've got to have a good night for school, talk later! Bye!" I quickly reply.

"Av-" but I cut Luke off by switching stop.
