"About 6th grade...I'm really sorry..." There was a slight pain in her voice as the brunette looked down at her hands. She felt her head spinning...was something wrong? Was it normal? Her hands were shaking. Her eyesight blurry and - that ringing echo in her head. It was all coming back and she didn't know how to stop it. This was her fault...right? Her punishment? For making her so miserable...alone, scared, and hopeless. She hadn't done anything wrong...she always had that bright smile on her face since the beginning - that bright Personality that was always stuck in her head. Those pretty blue eyes were engraved in her memory and now...here she was. That 13 year old she met back then was now 17. Had they really been apart for so long..?
Monika felt herself snap out of her thoughts as a hand reached out to her. She looked up - there it was. That smile of hers...how could she ever forget it?
"Monika... 6th grade is in the past...right now let's look at the present. Just...let me help you get better so you can get out of this infirmary already!" She helped her up and out of the swivel chair as she kept her hands locked with the brunette.
She's...she's fine, right? How can she be so nice? I don't get it. Why? Why can't you hate me?
Feeling her forehead being flicked she snapped back to reality as she saw Sayori raising an eyebrow, "You're thinking too much~Come on, I'll sneak you out of here..."
After a moment the salmon haired girl looked around and tapped her chin thinking of a plan. Monika only raised an eyebrow as she held onto the spot the girl had flicked her in.
The girl quickly walked to the nurse's office. After a while of rummaging through the closet she pulled out a few small blankets and walked back to the brunette's bed. She quickly began making it more comfortable.
"What are you doing now?" She giggled and Sayori only pointed at her, "I just thought of an idea. You can't just stay here all day! So even if your parents came to pick you up I'll make sure to give you what you need right now.."
Monika only seemed amused and stood up from the swivel chair and walked up to the slightly shorter girl, "What might that be?"
The salmon haired girl only backed up slowly until she was pinned against the nurses small office, "Ah, I-"
BANG
"Monika! You're finally up! I came to drop off these drinks from the vending machine and-"
Michael Conner.
The brunette turned her head and and only rubbed the bridge of her nose, "Michael...what're you doing here?"
"Well...I came to see you obviously! But...it seems as if the goody-two-shoes beat me to it."
"Michael please-"
"Calm down sweetheart, if you keep it up you might pass out in front of everyone again~ and I don't think your mother will be a big fan of that!" With that he set the drinks down and stopped by the door, "Soo rest well darling~" he laughed before slamming the door behind him.
"Tch..."
He hasn't changed much from the last time I saw him...
Sayori only glanced at the door for a moment before pushing her two index fingers together, "So...you two were a thing right..? H-how did that go?"
Monika only sighed as she threw the drink in the trashcan without hesitation, "Let's just say the guys a real ego machine who cares only about himself and his reputation here at school..."
"Ah right...so you're not interested in any guys....right?" Sayori fiddled with her fingers a tad bit.
The brunette noticed how she was acting and gently reached for hand to try and tease her a bit , "Not exactly guys in particular no..." they made eye-contact for a second before Sayori pulled her hands away.
"Y-you know I have to go get Natsuki Class might be starting soon and she's a first year so I have to guide her around! I...I'll see you later okay? Ah...bye Monika!" The girl quickly grabbed her bag and headed towards the door before walking out and closing the door behind her.
There was a soft laugh as the door closed. The brunette smiled, "She hasn't changed a bit.."
______________________________________There was a sigh of relief on the other side of the door as Sayori leaned her head back and took a deep breath as she looked up at the ceiling and felt a smile appearing in her face as her heart began to race - though it wasn't something she was focused on. They talked again...after four years. She was still the same beautiful brunette. Though...something was different about her-
"So...I'm guessing you came back after all! It's a shame we hadn't scared you off completely...everything was going perfect before you came back... we even thought you had...well you know..."
The salmon haired girl flinched as she moved from the door and raised an eyebrow, "Ah...do I know you? Maybe you've got the wrong girl! I was just looking for-"
"Monika? I guess the rumors were true after all...you actually like..."
The girl only laughed, "Oh, this is fantastic! Even when we were kids...You've always been such an airhead, haven't you?"
Sayori felt herself become anxious and spoke quickly without thinking, "L-listen I don't know what you're talking about...I should be leaving..."
"Hold it right there Atsuko! You're not going anywhere until you-!"
"You're Kira...right? The one who always stood on the side and did nothing? The one who got the idea of messing with my bikes' brakes...and watched Monika and the rest of the others pour the water used for mopping? It's a pleasure seeing you, it really is, but I have to go."
"Pfff- Look whose grown a pair! Listen dear,"
Within seconds the girl had already grabbed a bunch of her hair and held it tightly into a fist as she spoke with a smirk on her face,
"One bad move here and it won't be just four people this time. It doesn't take long for people around here to finally snap and decide to leave the academy for good. Now you be a doll and forget what you had with Monika in there, alright? You're a smart girl I'm sure you'll do fine~"
She let go of the shorter girls' hair and patted her head before heading for the nurses office door, "I can't believe it...a complete dork trying to go out with one of the most popular girls in school...Oh, how entertaining...I'm sure Michael would get a kick out of this!" she shook her head before walking in.
Sayori looked at the handle she could've easily walked in and told Monika everything...but why would it matter? Would she agree with Kira? Was she really just a pathetic girl caught up in a dream that would never come to be?
The bell rang. The real test was only starting now.
