Sophia POV

My life is so boring but, it's not as bad as it use to be when my mom and dad were married. They would fight a lot and would only put their heads together to enforce their strict rules on me. I couldn't go outside, I couldn't go to my friend's house, I was barely allowed to bring company, and of course the no boyfriend rule.

It wasn't until, my mom and dad got a divorce three years ago because my parents were being  unfaithful to one another. My mom actually ended up marrying again one year after her divorce with my dad. Unfortunately, my dad got deported back to Haiti. It's always been a secret why he got deported. My mom never wanted to talk about it so I stopped asking about it.

Once my mom got married to her new Korean husband Jaehyun, she only loosened up a little bit. She lets me have friends over but I still couldn't go to my friend's house. I'm still not allowed to have a boyfriend. I understand I'm only fifteen but, it sucks to see girls my age having their first love and I've never felt anything like that.

On the other hand, my step brother San gets to live his best teenage life. He's only one year older than me with a bunch of friends and a lot of popularity to go along with it. His friends come to our home a lot. One of my mom's dumb rules when they are around is I have to stay far away from them since they're boys. At first, San was on my side and thought I should have as much freedom as him but then, he slowly started agreeing with my mom and decided to help her keep me away from boys and everything fun.

A lot of guys are scared to even speak to me with all the power that San has. That's why I'm surprised that I've been getting love letter in my locker every morning. It's been going on for a month and I still don't know who it is. I thought it would be a guy named Johnny in my first period but, I asked him would he ever write a love letter to a girl he liked and he said that's corny so it's obviously not him.

"What if it's one of San's friends?" my best friend Kendra asked. We've been best friend since middle school and she's wild compared to me. San doesn't like me hanging out with her.

"I doubt it"

"It has to be Wooyoung" she said.

"Why do you think it's him?"

"Because he's extremely nice to you and has conversations with you. He even asked you about you interest. Remember, he asked you what are your hobbies and you said reading and writing. He has to be the one doing this to show you he's serious about you"

"He calls me his sister. There's no way it's him"

"Yes it is. Woo-"

"Girl shut up they are coming towards us" I said as San and his friends were passing by us. Mingi bumped into me and before I could say anything he turned his head and winked at me.

"It's definitely him" she cheered.

"Whatever" I rolled my eyes. "Even if I find the guy that sends me these letters it's not like I can actually be with him"

"I hate when you talk like this. You're really going to let your mom and brother stop you from having fun?"

I thought about having fun plenty of times but, I was always caught before I could even experience anything.

After school, Kendra was at cheer practice so I was walking home on my own.

"Sophie?" Someone tapped me on my shoulder causing me to turn around. It was Mingi. My heart started pounding rapidly for some reason.

"What do you want?"

"I heard you were good at math and I need help-"

"My brother is good at math too" I said.

"Ok, I'll be honest. I think you're really pretty and I'm trying to get to know you"

"I'm not allowed to date"

"I know that and I don't care. I want you and that's all that matters"

"What makes you think I would want you?" I asked. He look defeated but, he surprised me when he started reciting one of the letters I've received.

"I kind of already guessed it was you" I told him.

"Did wooyoung tell you?"

"No..you kind of gave it away when you winked at me while I had the letter in my hand earlier" I chuckled.

"Well do you want to go somewhere with me. San is at dance practice"

"No, I need to be home. My mom is off today.

"Is she off tomorrow"

"Yeah but San will be home"

"I don't think you really want to hang out with me so I think I should just stop"

"I do but, I can't"

"It's fine, I'll see you around" he said walking away from me

I went home and moped around. It sucks that I can't hang out with him. Plus, he is San's friend
that's a easier way for me to get caught.

I told Kendra about it and she was mad just as I expected her to be.

"I'll find a way to distract San just so you can be free for one day" she said.

It's really hard when San doesn't like Kendra.

The next day...

Kendra came over so we could walk to school together.

"You look really nice today San" She said with a smile.

I didn't expect to see him smile back just as hard and say "you look good everyday so I don't really have to say much"

I thought he disliked her?

"Alright let's go" I told Kendra.

"Wait up for me" San said to Kendra and I. He's never walked to school with us and never cared to either.

The whole walk to school consisted of Kendra and San flirting. I was honestly having mixed feelings about it because I know Kendra is only showing she likes him for me but, San genuinely is showing interest. I would hate for him to get his heart broken.

I seen Mingi in the halls but, he avoided making eye contact with me. I guess he doesn't like me anymore.

I opened my locker and a note was in it.

Meet me near the buses after school

I was indecisive whether I should go until, Kendra told me her and San are going to the park right after school.

After school I went over to the buses and when he seen me a smile appeared on his face.

"You came?" He said giving me a hug.

"Yeah, San won't be home for a couple of hours"

"I think it would be better if we went to my place and stayed in my room instead of going out in public because I don't want my mom's friend nor San to see us together" I explained to him.

"Ok" he agreed
