𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 16: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫 - 𝐑𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐓𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐥𝐚.

A flash of lightning struck down, avoiding the building they were standing on. This didn't phase them though, they were more focused on defeating each other to let something like lightning distract them.

Arata's LP: 4000.
Takuto's LP: 4000.
Turn 1: Arata.
Arata: "I'll go first!"
He draws his card and looks at his hand.
"I'll start by activating this Spell, Fearocious Frenzy. By giving 1000 of my Life Points, I can summon any number of Fearocious monsters to the field. So come on out my servants!"
He summons three monsters from his hand.
"Three Fearocious Black Widows."
-Fearocious Black Widows.
-Lv: 10.
-ATK: 200.
Arata's LP: 4000>1000.
Takuto: "Three Level 10 monsters, what's he planning?"
Arata: "Now I'll take two of my Level 10 Black Widows and Overlay! I XYZ SUMMON NUMBER 35: RAVENOUS TARANTULA!"
-Number 35: Ravenous Tarantula.
-Rank: 10.
-ATK: 0.
Takuto: "A Number? Don't tell me you've fallen to its influence too."
Arata: "You fool..."
He holds out his right hand and harnesses his dark powers into it, conjuring a Number card in the process. Takuto was in disbelief when he saw this transpire before his very eyes. Only after he saw this did he realized something.
Takuto: "So you're the mastermind behind these Number cards!?"
Arata: "That's right, but enough about this..."
The conjured card reverts to darkness, which then flows back into Arata.
"On with the Duel, when Ravenous Tarantula is summoned. All my monsters gain ATK and DEF equal to the differences in our Life Points. Since the difference is 3000, my Black Widow and Tarantula gain 3000 ATK and DEF."
-Number 35: Ravenous Tarantula.
-ATK: 0>3000.
-Fearocious Black Widow.
-ATK: 200>3200.
"Black Widow's effect activates, when its ATK changes by 1000. You have to send one card from your hand equal to the change in its ATK."
Takuto: "What?!"
Arata: "That means three of your cards must now go to the Graveyard. Too bad."
As Arata laughs a little as he watches Takuto send three of his cards to Graveyard.
"I'll end my turn with one card face-down, now go."
Turn 2: Takuto.
Takuto: "My turn, draw!"
He places his card in his hand and examines his cards.
"This is bad, the Duel has only started and he's already put me at a disadvantage. Worst of all, these cards I have won't be enough to help me make a comeback. Best thing I can do is stall until my next turn. I'll start by placing a monster face-down in Defense position. Then I'll end my turn with two cards face-down, your move."
Turn 3: Arata.
Arata: "Seriously, that's all you've got?"
Arata looks at him in disbelief, he was expecting his former friend to make some sort of comeback after starting the first turn. But seeing Takuto only doing this made him laugh more harder than before.
"Talk about pathetic, I draw! RAVENOUS TARANTULA, TAKE OUT HIS FACE-DOWN CARD!"
As his monster commences its attack, Takuto's face-down monster flipped. Revealing to be Technomancer Hard-drive Gardna.
-Technomancer Hard-drive Gardna.
-Lv: 4
-DEF: 1800.
Takuto: "Nice try, but Technomancer Hard-drive Gardna can't be destroyed in battle once per turn. Not only that, but thanks to its flip effect. I can add another Hard-drive Gardna to my hand."
Takuto's deck shuffles until another Hard-drive Gardna card slid out. He takes the card and adds it to his hand.
Arata: "No matter, I've still got my Black Widow. TAKE OUT HIS GARDNA!"
Technomancer Hard-drive Gardna gets destroyed.
"Luckily for you it was in Defense mode, so I'll spare you for this turn."
Turn 4: Takuto.
Takuto: "How generous, I draw!"
He looks at the card and places it in his hand.
"But before I take my turn, I'd like to know something first."
Arata: "Of course you do. What?"
Takuto: "What has happened to you Arata? This isn't like you."
Arata: "Why should I care? Nobody cares about me."
Takuto: "That's not true, I care."
Arata: "Really? Then why did you snitch on Reijin?"
Takuto: "Because he was a terrible influence, I couldn't sit by and wait until something bad happens to you."
Arata: "Then let me ask you, did you ever stop to consider how I felt when I joined him? No, of course you didn't. You just took matters into your own hands because you felt I was in danger. Not even considering my own feelings."
Takuto: "I didn't want you to throw your life away!"
Arata: "Well it's thanks to you I have no life anymore!"
Takuto: "What do you mean?"
Arata: "Enough!"
Another flash of lightning struck down, avoiding the building once again. Arata started to clench his hands and cringe. The thought of what Takuto did made him very upset. Takuto on the other hand was more confused than ever. What did Arata mean when he said he has no life anymore?
"Take your turn before you really piss me off."
Takuto: "Fine! To start I banish Hard-drive Gardna from my Graveyard to Special Summon Technomancer Data Decrypter."
-Technomancer Data Decrypter.
-Lv: 6.
-ATK: 2000.
Arata: "Idiot, you triggered my Ravenous Tarantula's effect. When you Special Summon a monster, you take 600 points of damage."
Ravenous Tarantula shoots a ball of silk at Takuto, dealing him 600 points in damage.
Takuto's LP: 4000>3400.
-Number 35: Ravenous Tarantula.
-ATK: 3000>2400.
-Fearocious Black Widow.
-ATK: 3200>2600.
Takuto: "So your Number's ATK changes whenever the difference in our Life Points change."
Arata: "Yes, but now I'll trigger the Continuous Trap called Damage Recovery. Every time you take effect damage, I regain Life Points equal to that damage."
Arata's LP: 1000>1600.
-Number 35: Ravenous Tarantula.
-ATK: 2400>3000.
-Fearocious Black Widow.
-ATK: 2600>3200.
Takuto: "Damn, regardless I'll take my chances. When Data Decrypter is Special Summoned this way, it gains one Data Counter per the banished monster's Level. Since Hard-drive Gardna's Level was 4, Data Decrypter gains four Counters."
-Technomancer Data Decrypter.
-Counters: 0>4.
"Now I activate one of Data Decrypter's effect, I give up two of its Counters to Special Summon another copy of Data Decrypter from my Deck."
-Technomancer Data Decrypter.

Arata: "Did you already forget? Ravenous Tarantula's effect activates."
Takuto's LP: 3400>2800.

"Then my Damage Recovery Trap recovers my Life Points by the damage you took."

Takuto: "I'm well aware of that, but like I said I'll take my chances. Cause now I'll take my two Level 6 Data Decrypters and Overlay! I XYZ SUMMON TECHNOMANCER VIRUS ERADICATOR!"
-Technomancer Virus Eradicator.

Arata: "Once again my Ravenous Tarantula and Damage Recovery Trap activates."
Takuto's LP: 2800>2200.
Arata's LP: 2200>2800.
Takuto: "I activate Virus Eradicator's effect, by using an Overlay Unit I can target one Dark Xyz monster on your field and cut its ATK in half."
-Number 35: Ravenous Tarantula.
-ATK: 3000>1500.
"Next I'll activate Technomancer Circuit Cleanser's effect from my Graveyard. By banishing this monster, I can target a Dark monster on your field and drop its ATK by 500."
-Number 35: Ravenous Tarantula.
-ATK: 1500>1000.
Takuto: "ALRIGHT VIRUS ERADICATOR, ATTACK RAVENOUS TARANTULA!"
As Number 35: Ravenous Tarantula gets destroyed, a strong gust of wind blows at Arata. Pushing him back a little while maintaining his stance.
Arata's LP: 2800>1400.
-Fearocious Black Widow.
-ATK: 3200>200.
Arata: "With my Number destroyed, Black Widow's ATK return to normal. But that also means its effect activates, so now you must send your last card to the Graveyard."
Takuto sends his last card from his hand to the Graveyard.
Takuto: "I may have lost my last card, but now Virus Eradicator's other effect activates. If it successfully destroys a Dark Xyz monster, it can attack once more."
Arata: "What?!"
Takuto: "VIRUS ERADICATOR ATTACK HIS BLACK WIDOW AND END THIS!"
Arata: "I don't think so! I'll put a stop to it with Fearocious Necro Scythe's effect. I send this card to the Graveyard to spare myself 100 Life Points."
As Black Widow gets destroyed, an even stronger gust of wind pushes Arata back. Putting him down on one knee after withstanding the attack.
Arata's LP: 1400>100.
Takuto: "Damn! Then I'll end my turn."
Turn 5: Arata.
While Arata was looking down, he slowly gets back on his feet when suddenly his dark powers begin to cover up his body. Takuto's eyes widen as he bare witnessed to the darkness his body was emanating. He couldn't believe what he was seeing, Arata really has changed in more ways than one. None of which was good.
Arata: "The time for games is over."
Takuto: "What?"
Arata raises his head up and faces his former friend, glaring at him with menacing eyes. Takuto started to sweat a little, he's never seen Arata express such a menacing demeanor before. But in spite of this, he kept his cool and prepared himself.
Arata: "I'm ending this NOW!"
He draws his card and looks at it.
"I activate the Spell Xyz Retaliation, with this by paying half of my Life Points and banishing two monsters in my Graveyard with the same Levels. I can bring back one Xyz Monster from my Graveyard."
Arata's LP: 100>50.
"RISE UP ONCE MORE NUMBER 35: RAVENOUS TARANTULA."
-Number 35: Ravenous Tarantula.
-Rank: 10.
-ATK: 0>2150.
Takuto: "Why choose to bring that monster back?"
Arata: "Because you fool, Xyz Retaliation has another effect. If the Xyz monster I brought back is Rank 7 or higher, it not only gains ATK equal to the Life Points I paid. It also destroys one Xyz monster you control."
Takuto: "What?!"
Xyz Retaliation destroys Technomancer Virus Eradicator.
-ATK: 2150>2200.
Arata: "And with this, you're through. NOW RAVENOUS TARANTULA ATTACK TAKUTO DIRECTLY!"
Takuto: "No! I refuse to give up so easily. Activate Counter Trap Circuit Breaker, when you attack me directly. I can banish one Technomancer monster in my Graveyard to destroy your monster."
Arata: "Sorry, but that's not gonna happen."
Takuto: "What do you mean?"
Arata: "I send Fearious Germite to the Graveyard, negating your Trap's effect and destroying it."
Takuto: "No way."
Circuit Breaker gets destroyed.
Arata: "NOW RAVENOUS TARANTULA, FINISH HIM!"
Number 35: Ravenous Tarantula attacks Takuto directly, sending him sliding on the ground before coming to a halt.
Takuto's LP: 2200>0.

As the Duel came to a close, rain started to pour all over Heartland. Takuto laid on the ground defeated as Arata approached him. As he made eye contact with him, the energy cord binding the two vanishes.
Takuto: "Tell me... why're you doing all of this?"
Arata: "I want people to suffer, and nothing is going to stop me."
Takuto: "But why?"
Instead of responding to his other question, Arata opens up a dark portal and walked towards it.
Takuto: "Wait!"
Arata stops and faces his former friend one last time as he called out to him. Takuto was slowly getting back on his feet, but he maintained eye contact with Arata as he did.
Arata: "Oh, and about your question earlier. The reason why Kaiza is feeling so down, it's because I have his sister."
Takuto: "What?!"
Once he finished, Arata faced forward and enters the portal.
Takuto: "Hey wait!"
Takuto attempted to go into the portal as well, however the Duel left him exhausted. So just when he came close to passing through it, the portal closes on him. He looks down in disappointment as the rain causes his hair to slouch down. Those final moments Arata said to him left him confused and shocked. But he mostly felted shocked that a relative of Kaiza was in Arata's clutches. While it did explain Kaiza's distraught behavior, it also left Takuto with more questions. Questions that only Kaiza himself could answer for him.
