As the morning continued, over at Heartland Kaiza was getting ready to head out. He wore his jacket, placed on his sweat bands, and gathered up his cards. Placing them within his Duel Disk allowing it to shuffle them around. As it finished something slid out from his deck, Kaiza grabs it and realized he left the photo mixed up with his cards. Looking at it caused him to cringe, so he placed the photo on his drawer and exited his room. As soon as he shuts the door, he took a deep breath to calm himself and focus on the matter at hand. Once his mind was at ease, he decides to check up on Takuto and see what he was up to. He opens his door and sees him laying in his bed, the sound of the door caused Takuto to wake up. When he did, he looks towards his door and spotted Kaiza looking at him.
Takuto: "Kaiza?"
Kaiza: "Hey, something wrong?"
Takuto: "No, I'm just a little exhausted that's all."
Kaiza: "Ah, well you take it easy then."
Takuto: "You're going to defend your title again?"
Kaiza: "Like always."
Takuto: "Alright then."
Kaiza closes his door and proceeded to the front door, putting his shoes first before he leaves. Once he was all set and ready to go, he opens the door and heads out. As for Takuto he continued laying in his bed, deciding to take it easy and rest for today. Part of him was still questioning Arata's reason for kidnapping Kaiza's sister. But he knew that it's pointless to think about such things without definitive evidence to back up any facts he has. So to clear his mind of this matter, he gets out of bed and looks in the closet. Pulling out a vacuum cleaner and plugging it in an electrical outfit. He turns it on and starts vacuuming his room first, followed by the living room, kitchen, bathroom, and lastly Kaiza's room. After he finished his room, he turns off the vacuum cleaner and straightened up Kaiza's bed. Folding his blankets and placing his pillow on top of them. He was satisfied by how it turned out, and it helped clear his mind of Arata's plot. But just when he was ready to leave, he noticed something that caught his eyes. A small white paper sitting idly by on top of an empty drawer. Curious to know what it is, Takuto takes the blank canvas and turns it around. To his surprise, it was a photo of Kaiza when he was a little kid. There was also a little girl with long brown hair smiling with him.
Takuto: "So this girl must be Kaiza's sister huh."
Seeing this picture got Takuto smiling, but it also got him to think about Arata's plan once again.
Flashback:
Arata: "The reason why Kaiza is feeling so down, it's because I have his sister."
Present:
Takuto: "What are you planning to do with her Arata?"
As he started wrapping his head around the subject once more, he suddenly heard the door open. He wasn't expecting Kaiza to return so early, but he did. So he placed the photo back on the drawer in its original position and leaves Kaiza's room. But before he could return to his room, Kaiza spotted him outside his room.
Kaiza: "Takuto?"
Takuto: "Oh hey Kaiza, I didn't expect you to come back early."
Kaiza: "Yeah, my opponent forfeited the match."
Takuto: "Really?"
Kaiza: "I know right, apparently when I summoned my ace. It became too much for him to bear, so he just gave up."
Takuto: "That seems rather cowardice."
Kaiza: "Exactly, but enough about that. What were you doing in my room?"
Takuto: "Oh nothing, just cleaning it up a little."
Kaiza looks at him with suspicion, almost like he's not telling him the whole truth. Takuto remained calm about it in spite of wanting to ask Kaiza some questions relating to his sister.
"What?"
Kaiza: "You wouldn't happen to have seen anything in my room that made you curious, right?"
Given that Kaiza wasn't going to let up, Takuto sighed and just nodded to him. Confessing that he did see something piquing his curiosity.
Takuto: "Alright fine I did. I saw a photo of you and some girl."
Kaiza: "Did you now?"
Takuto: "I did, is she your sister?"
Kaiza couldn't help but be surprised by his accurate assumption, now he was curious to know how he figured it out.
Kaiza: "How did you know?"
Before Takuto could answer that, he decided to make himself comfortable on the couch. This was going to be a long discussion, and he didn't want to hide anything from him.
Takuto: "Yesterday, I confronted Arata Igarashi."
Kaiza's eyes widened, not just because he couldn't believe what he did. But he also knows who he was talking about. So he sat down across from Takuto and faced him.
Kaiza: "Alright, and how did that go?"
Takuto: "Not well, I wanted to know what he did to you. But he refused to give me a straight answer, so we faced each other in a Duel. And he defeated me."
Kaiza: "Wait a second, were you worried about me?"
Takuto: "I was, you looked devastated yesterday."
Kaiza: "I see..."
Kaiza looked down for a moment, recollecting what Arata showed him yesterday.
Flashback:
Kaiza followed behind Arata, keeping a close eye on him to make sure he doesn't pull anything. He clearly doesn't trust him despite the fact that Arata gave his word to show him the person responsible for giving him the picture. After leading Kaiza throughout most of the day, Arata stopped. Which prompted Kaiza to stop as well.
Arata: "We're here."
Kaiza turned his attention towards the building in front of them, it was in ruins. The windows were boarded up, there was trash and dead plants just laying around. And most of the interior looked wrecked beyond repair. Nevertheless Arata headed to the back of the building and opened the back door. He then signaled Kaiza to follow him in, which he wasted no time in doing. Upon entering the building, he couldn't believe what he saw. Everything inside wasn't in disarray like he saw outside, in fact the interior was clean. On top of that, there were various Duel terminals and simulators that looked brand new. Which begged the question, why did it looked destroyed from the outside? Kaiza looked towards the boarded up windows and noticed something hanging in each one. They were posters, each one showing different perspectives of a destroyed interior.
Kaiza: "Clever, he's keeping this place a secret by masking its interior with its exterior. And judging from the interior, there's no question in my mind that this is his base of operations."
While Kaiza processed this new information in his head, Arata faced him for a brief moment.
Arata: "Wait here."
Once he said that, Arata went on ahead while Kaiza waited like he said. Behind closed doors and away from Kaiza's view, Arata approached a figure. Tapping its shoulder and whispering something into their ear.
"You know what to do, now go."
The figure simply nodded at him and exited the room, walking towards the awaiting Duelist. Kaiza heard footsteps approaching in his direction, so he prepared himself to meet the mysterious person. But as prepared as he was to see them, he wasn't ready for who it was he saw. Because when the figure came into Kaiza's sight, he nearly dropped to the floor. In front of him was a female with long brown hair.
Kaiza: "R... R... Reina?!"
Upon hearing her name, she opened her eyes and looked at him.
Reina: "Long time no see, big brother."
Upon seeing her eyes, there was no doubt in Kaiza's mind that the person standing in front of him was indeed his little sister. And yet part of him was in disbelief that she was here, in the flesh. Not wanting to waste this opportunity, Kaiza approached his sister and attempted to hug her. But Reina stepped back from him, not wanting to be embraced by her brother. Kaiza took notice of this and looked at her, wondering why she's keeping her distance from him.
Kaiza: "What's wrong?"
Reina clenched her fists and looked at him seriously, she was not happy to see him.
Reina: "Why did you leave us?"
Kaiza: "What're you talking about?"
Reina: "Don't play dumb, you know what I'm talking about."
Kaiza: "I'm serious, we haven't seen each other in eight years. I thought you died all those years ago."
Reina: "Had you stayed with our dad, maybe then you'd see me sooner. Instead you ran away and never came back!"
When she mentioned their father, Kaiza finally understood what she was talking about. This got Kaiza to put his arms down and look at his sister seriously as well. However he didn't harbor the same unhappy feeling Reina was displaying, because he was still happy to see his sister alive.
Kaiza: "It's because of father that we separated in the first place, had he not found a new job. We could've stayed together, instead our parents fought and wound up getting divorced."
Reina: "So you felt that running away and never seeing him again was your best option?!"
Kaiza stepped back when Reina snapped at him, it caught him off guard for a moment. He knew she wasn't happy, but he never expected her to be this upset.
Kaiza: "Look, if it'll make you happy. I'll stop what I'm doing and come back home, maybe then I'll reconcile with father."
Reina turned around and looked the other way, averting her gaze from her brother as she looked down with disappointment.
Reina: "It's too late for reconciliation."
Kaiza: "Why do you say that?"
Reina: "He's... He's dead."
Kaiza widened his eyes in total disbelief from this revelation. So much so that he backed away from his sister until his back touched the wall.
Kaiza: "How?! What happened?!"
Reina: "He committed suicide!"
As Reina turned back around to face her brother, she pointed her finger at him while looking more furiously at Kaiza.
"And it's all your fault!!"
Kaiza: "Me?!"
Reina: "Yes! When you decided to run away and never return home, he felt extremely guilty for losing you. Even when I was living with him, he still felted like he failed as a father. So he couldn't bear it anymore, and he took his own life because of it."
Reina cringed when she mentioned the last bit to him, it was uncomfortable to speak of and rightfully so. Her own father committed suicide, just speaking about it is enough to make anyone with sorrowful. And that sorrow was quickly expressed on Kaiza when he learned why his father took his own life. He got on his knees with his mouth opened in disbelief. Next he faced down and pressed his hands on the sides of his head as his eyes started shaking. He looked like he was about to breakout.
Kaiza: "I... I don't... believe it... Father died... because of me?"
Reina: "That's right! The last of our parents died because of you Kaiza!! You destroyed our dad!!"
Kaiza's eyes shook more every time his sister continued blaming him for the death of their father. But then suddenly his eyes stopped shaking when he realized that all is not lost. He may have lost his mother and father, but he still had his sister. So he looked up and faced her once again, this time expressing a more calm yet sorrowful expression.
Kaiza: "I'm sorry... I'm so sorry. Please let me make it up to you sister, I'm begging you! You're the only family I have left!"
Reina's infuriating expression went down a bit as she looked at him seriously. She stopped pointing at him and turned her back on her brother.
Reina: "I don't need you in my life anymore Kaiza."
When he heard her say that, his irises dilated back. He never thought his own sister would say something so heartbreaking to her own brother. But she did, and his sorrow only grew once again from hearing that.
"I have Arata Igarashi now, he'll take care of me. And best of all, unlike you he'll be there for me when I need him."
After saying her final words to him, she started to walk away from her brother. When he noticed this, Kaiza raised his hand out towards Reina. Wanting to reach out to his sister, pleading for her not to leave him.
Kaiza: "Please... Please don't go. Don't leave me all alone."
Kaiza quietly said to her, but she wasn't phased by any of this. She continued walking away from him until she was out of his sight. Unbeknownst to Kaiza, Arata heard the whole thing transpire behind a wall. Once Reina returned to him, she nodded at him insuring that Kaiza was vulnerable now. So he walked back out towards him and was surprised to see the vigilant Duelist on his knees feeling heartbroken. Arata stood in front of him with his arms crossed and expressing a smirk, feeling joyful to see him in pain.
Arata: "Now you know, and unless you want her to live out the rest of her days on the streets. I suggest you cease being a vigilante."
Even though Kaiza was heartbroken, he was able to process what Arata said to him. And the fact that he would threaten to throw her out should he fail to fulfill his demand. It caused him to breakout of his sorrowful state and look at Arata with fury. Kaiza quickly stood back up and pinned him to the ground, catching Arata completely off guard. Once he had him down, he clutched Arata's neck and attempted to strangle him. But Arata fought back despite lacking in physical strength.
Kaiza: "If you so much as hurt my sister! I swear, I'll kill you!"
As Arata struggled to free his neck from his grasp, Reina quickly rushed over when she spotted him in danger. Not wasting a second, she kicked her brother in the stomach. Forcing him to loosen his grip on him and release Arata while he was on his knees again in pain. Kaiza looked up at the two as they both looked down at him expressing anger. So Arata enveloped his body in darkness and pushed Kaiza through the door. Forcing him out of the building and hitting a wall. As he slid down the wall in even more pain than before, Kaiza looked in front of him seeing Arata and Reina standing together facing him back. Kaiza reached out his hand for Reina once again, but then the door started to close on him. He watched in horror as Reina began to leave his sight while Arata smirked just from looking at him.
Kaiza: "REINAAAAA!!!"
Before long the door completely shut on him, Reina and Arata were gone. He clenched the hand he attempted to reach Reina with into a fist. His face cringed with frustration as his eyes started tearing up from everything that just happened to him.
"AAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!"
He screamed in complete anguish, feeling angry that Arata took his only sister away from him. But also feeling sad that Reina deserted him for someone as vile as Arata.
Present:
Takuto looked at him with concern as Kaiza started cringing from the displeasure of that recollection.
Takuto: "Are you alright?"
Kaiza: "Sorry but... I need a moment."
Kaiza stood up and walked back to his room, locking the door once again. He then picked up the photo on his drawer and sat on his bed, looking at it unhappy.
Reina: "I have Arata Igarashi now, he'll take care of me. And best of all, unlike you he'll be there for me when I need him."
Remembering those last words Reina said to him caused to cringe in sorrow. But unlike before, he didn't cry. Because he has come to accept what she said and admit his failure as a brother. Though it still hurts him since it came out of her own mouth. Takuto on the other hand remained on the couch feeling displeased with himself. His curiosity caused his partner to relive the anguish he endured yesterday.
Takuto: "I shouldn't have brought it up, but then... If I didn't..."
Before he could finish what he was thinking, he heard the sound of a door opening. He turned his attention to the hallway and spotted Kaiza walking back out. This time he looked serious, he wasn't feeling sad like he was before.
Kaiza: "Sorry about that, I had to get it off my chest one last time."
Takuto was stunned to see him feeling better after the discomfort he was in before. He was happy that his curiosity didn't entirely hurt Kaiza, if anything it actually helped his partner. So Kaiza sat back down across from him and allowed Takuto to finish where he left off.Meanwhile at Arata's base of operations, Arata was in his office looking at some dark bubbles. Each one showing a possessed Duelist he bestowed a Number to in action, dueling against their opponents. As he observed each one, he smirked when he noticed something he was pleased to see.
Arata: "Seems like Kaiza hasn't shown up against any of these Duelists. Which means..."
He turned his attention to Reina who was standing on the sidelines respecting Arata's space. Though he was looking at her, she wasn't looking at him in return. And that's because unlike before when she completely expressed herself to her brother. This time her eyes were stiff, hollow and devoid of life. As if she has no freewill to do anything she'd like to do.
"You did a fantastic job Reina. The plan was a success, and best of all. Seeing his disparity was so satisfying to witness. Granted..."
He rubs his neck lightly, still having the bruises he obtained when Kaiza strangled him.
"He is a rather ferocious Primordial Dragon carrier, thankfully I gave you the command to aid me should things get physical. Nevertheless, seeing as how I have a Primordial Dragon carrier of my own. And one that's related to another by blood..."
He stands up from his desk and approaches Reina, like before he tapped her shoulder but instead looking into her lifeless eyes.
"You'll be the perfect counter to him."
Pretty soon his smirk turned into a grin as he started to laugh evilly, building it up louder and louder. He enjoyed how everything was going accordingly, and even if he lost a few of his possessed Duelists. He could always replace them, to him everybody was his pawns. All serving for one and one cause alone, to make people suffer.
