"My head," Amanda groaned as she woke up. Bits and pieces of the night before came together in her head. "I almost kissed her," she sighed. It did hurt that she missed her chance, but she knew she made the right choice. Besides, they both got drunk. Francine might be the lucky one and forget everything.
Amanda took a shower and got dressed for work. When she opened her blinds, she swore the sunlight burned her retinas. She grabbed a pair of sunglasses and dashed out the door.
"So, you had fun last night," Basil smirked, holding a coffee mug in both hands.
"You did too, I see."
Basil rolled his eyes and took a long gulp from the steaming mug. "I always have fun at parties." The two walked to the office together. Amanda asked him what he did while she was gone. "Nothing much," he replied. "Met a few guys, but all of them had a date or were married. And as much it is my dream to be a homewrecker to a rich guy, I wasn't having it. I stayed at the bar and went home with bartender."
"You slept with the bartender?"
"No, I didn't sleep with him. We made love! That man can slam me down any day of the week!"
"Explains why you're sitting."
"Whatever. What about you? What was it like with tall, sexy, and bossy?"
Amanda rolled her eyes. "It was cool, I guess. Francine and I went to the roof. There was a lot of wine. But she's so kind and gentle. And her eyes! I could look into them every day. And she's so sweet! It got kinda cold, and she gave me her blazer. We were this close to each other. I could smell her perfume. We kept getting closer. Her hands were on my waist..."
"And then?" Basil leaned forward in his seat. "What happened next?"
"Some girl walked in on us. We didn't even touch lips," Amanda said, casually drinking her tea. Basil groaned and booed at the ending. She laughed. "Hey, I didn't want last night to end like that either. She dropped me off at my house-"
"Then you two had mind-blowing sex, you woke up next to each other, had sex again, and now you two will have sex every single day for the rest of lives?"
"No!" Amanda blushed at the thought. "We shook hands and she went home."
"You shook hands? How fucking dumb are you?!"
"Basil!"
"No! Fuck being nice! You had your chance Amanda, and you blew it! You were right there!"
"I know..."
"No, you don't. Dammit, everyone knows something is going on between you two. She gives you looks, you blush. It's so fucking simple."
"Maybe it's not, ok? Maybe I'm scared of getting my heart broken because I fell for my boss. Maybe I want to have her all to myself without worrying about what the world will think!"
"Amanda."
"Maybe I want to show her who I am. Maybe I want to have sex on a rooftop without giving a damn! Maybe I want to be as close to her as possible and tell her how much I want her and care about her. Maybe I've fallen in love with my boss and it could ruin my whole career!"
"Amanda."
"What?!"
"Come here." Basil held his arms out. She felt her body slump. She walked over to her taller co-worker and put her head in his chest. Yes, in. She was too emotionally frustrated to give him a real hug. "Just calm down, ok?" Amanda nodded, at least attempted to do so. "It's ok, alright? I shouldn't have been so harsh."
