"So Cas found out from the other angels and he told you everything?" K asked solemnly.
"Yep. But we're not gonna let that son of a bitch have you." Dean told her.
"So your not mad?" She asked.
Dean laughed a little. "Mad? We change fate all the time. This'll be no different."
K smiled to herself. Maybe he was right. Dean's phone rang. He took it out of his pocket and look at the caller ID. He rolled his eyes and answered.
"What Crowley?" He asked in monotone. K shifted uneasily in her seat. She felt a hand on her shoulder and looked up to see Sam giving her a reassuring smile. She looked back at Dean. She couldn't hear what Crowley was saying but considering what Dean was saying, it wasn't good.
"No. Hell no. Too bad. Well how about you kiss my ass?" And with that he hung up.
"What did he say?" Sam asked.
"Nothing." Dean said angrily. He walked into the kitchen, poured himself a shot of whiskey, and almost shatter the glass in his hand as he clenched it tightly. He came back into the main room and looked at K.
"Do you wanna come with me?" He asked calmly.
Sam came to the to the table, book in hand, and sat down, flipping open the dusty pages. "Bring me a doggy bag." He said without looking up.
K looked back to Dean. "Doggy bag? Where are we going?" She asked.
"Out."-------------------------
Dean pulled up to a diner about an hour outside of town. He'd thought they should get out for a bit. Dean asked that K dress up a little but not too over the top. So she was wearing a black, off the shoulder sundress with black wedges. Dean was wearing his infamous flannel and blue jeans. Dean got out and went to K's side, and opened her door for her. He took her hand in his and she got out, shutting the door behind her. They walked into the diner handing hands because Dean never let go. K wasn't complaining.
They walked inside and K smelled french fries. She hadn't realized how truly hungry she was until the heavenly aroma hit her.
Dean picked a booth farthest from everyone. They sat down, ordered they're drinks, and told the waitress to give them a minute.
K was pretty silent for most of the time, until Dean spoke up.
"You know, this isn't your fault." He told her.
"It sure feels like it." She said quietly. "You just don't know how badly K want to run away from all of this, never look back. I want everything to go back to normal." She told him.
"Sorry sweetheart. You know that can't happen. If we never would've met, there's no guarantee that you would even be alive."
K looked at Dean, evidently hurt. She never asked for any of this.
The waitress came back to their table with a pad and pen.
"What can I get for y'all?" She asked with a heavy southern drawl.
She smiled flirtatiously at Dean. He looked up and gave her a quick smile before speaking.
"I'll have the uh bacon cheeseburger with a side of fries, please." He tells her, handing her his menu.
She looks at K and eyes her up and down. "And you?" She asked coldly.
K scoffed. "I'll just take some chicken strips and fries, please." She said.
The waitress grabbed her menu without another word. Before leaving, she shot another look at Dean and winked, turning away to the kitchen."You sure do get a lot of attention." K said to Dean. He shifted in his seat.
"It has it ups and downs." He said back.
"How do?" She asked curiously.
"Well, yeah I get looks or phone numbers from women. But sadly, the one I really want hasn't done it yet." He smiled sincerely. K looked at her lap. She knew he was talking about her but she couldn't quite believe it. She admitted it internally: she had her eyes on Dean. But did he really feel that way? Or was he just trying to use her like all men do? She didn't want to give him half the chance. She sat back quietly until the waitress brought their food. They ate mostly in silence. Dean wiped his mouth with a napkin. "You've barely touched your food. Is everything ok?" He asked. K sighed. "Yeah, I guess. Just a lot on my mind."
Dean took K's hand in his across the table. He stared at his own reflection in her green eyes. "You can tell me anything, K. I want you to be comfortable with Sammy and me. We just wanna help you." He told her. K pulled her hand away and set it her lap. Dean sat back, offended.
"I don't want help, Dean. I just want to leave and never come back. Is that too much to ask? I'm tired of feeling this way. Like a burden. Like I'm incapable. I don't want to be around you, I want to be alone. I just want to be left alone." Her voice trailed off. Dean was shocked. He stared at her for a moment before nodding his head. "Ok." Was all he said back to her.
The truth was, she didn't want to be alone at all. She wasn't going to tell Dean though. He could use it to an advantage. She just wished things could be simpler.
Dean got up from the table, leaving the waitress enough cash to pay for the food and a tip. He grabbed K's hand and pulled her up from table. K followed him silently, not bothering with an argument. His hand felt so warm in hers, almost like it belonged there. She shook the thought from her head as they walked out of the diner. It was getting late and K felt a shiver run down her body as they walked into the cool night air. Dean took off his dark gray jacket and told K to put it on, so she did. Dean walked rather close to her, not letting much distance come between them. It was like he didn't want her to run away or step too far from his side. He opened the car door for her and she got in, Dean gently shutting the door. He walked around the car and got in as well. They began their drive back to the bunker.
K had her arm resting beside her in the seat. She saw Dean quickly glance at it through her peripheral. He took a hand off of the steering wheel and reached down to hold her hand. K pulled away once again. Dean furrowed his eyebrows and stared out at the road ahead of them. K shifted more towards her door.
"K, I'm gonna hurt you. You know that." He told her.
K looked at him. "No, I don't know that, Dean. I didn't know Arthur would hurt me the first time. Or the demon that attacked me when we first met. I don't trust anyone. I cant take any chances Dean. You said it yourself at the bunker, that you didn't want to hurt me. So I don't want to get close to you to find out if you will or not." Dean gave her a pained look.
"I only said that became everyone I love dies. If I love you or you love me, you'll die. I won't hurt you, but I can't guarantee something else won't." He gripped the steering wheel so tight K thought it would surely break. She looked out her window and the rest of the short car ride was very quiet, besides the low rumble of the Impala.
