It was silent as he drove. He glanced over a few times and finally said something.

“You need to explain a lot of things to me”

Silence.

“Jaycee. I’m serious. This is no time to shut people out. Especially me”

Believe me I wanted to tell him. Tell him everything and just have him hold me tight and tell me everything was going to be okay. But that’s obviously not going to happen. Every time I even opened my mouth no words came out. I was scared and keeping things bottled up was not going to help anything.

“Luke I can’t”

“What do you mean you can’t? “

“I mean I can’t tell you why that happened last night and I can’t tell you what happened four years ago”

“Jaycee, honestly nothing you say could make me change my mind about anything. Really I just wanna know you’re okay.”

“I’m fine. Someday I’ll tell you but……”

He pulled into the parking lot of a small convenient center.

“But what?”

“Luke”

“Yes?”

“You’d never make me do anything I didn’t wanna do right?”

“Of course not, why would you think that?”

“I don’t think you would, I’m just making sure”

He looked down at his hands that were folded in his lap. He bit his lip and began thinking. I saw the light bulb go off in his brain. He had finally put the pieces together.

“Jaycee did he make you – “

Before he could even finish his sentence I had already begun crying and burying my face into his chest.

“Jace it’s ok. Those guys yesterday……all they told me was that you were only dating me for the wrong reasons, something about ‘keeping a reputation’? I knew you wouldn’t do that and you even told me you wanted to forget everything that happened at your old school so I left and went to Ashton” he said has he hugged me tighter

I looked up when he said Ashton’s name.

“He told you didn’t he?”

“Parts of it, but he doesn’t know exactly what happened. Only you and that guy do. I really need you to tell me what happened so I can fully understand this”

I wiped away the tears on my cheeks even though I knew more would be coming soon. I had only ever told this to three people. My mum, Ashton, and Berkeley.

“Okay Luke, four years ago I took this test……..”

It’s been a while but let’s make this four.
