45: Kitten/Ronny

I was walking home from work, when I heard whimpering from an alley. Wondering, I looked into it. When I didn't see anything (it was way too dark), I went into it. Slowly I looked around. In the back corner of the dead end I saw something. It looked like a pile of pillows.
Again I heard a whimper. I looked closer and saw that on top of the pillows was a small body. It was a boy. He had black curly hear, his face was hidden in the blankets.

Slowly I approached him. Then I reached out my arm to stroke over his back. Haven't heard me before, the boy jumped lightly and looked up. Scared he backed away. "Hey", I said softly, "I won't hurt you. Come here"
The raven haired looked at me disapprovingly. When I smiled slightly, he cautiously made his way back over to me. After some time he finally pressed his cheek in my still stretched out hand. "Why are you out here, alone?", I asked, worry wavering in my voice. He just whimpered again, looking at me with big green eyes.

Studying his face closely I noticed something odd. Two fur brown cat ears sticking out between his curly hair. Slowly, not to startle him, I lifted my second hand and reached to his hair. He looked at me, noticing my arm, but doing nothing to stop me. Taking that as an approval, I softly touched his ears. They were soft and fluffy. At first the boy let me, but after a few seconds he jerked back. He came back to me slowly, nestling his head into my palm again.

Staying still, I decided to let him come to me, to build his trust. After a few minutes the back haired curled himself around me. That's when I noticed a tail. Cat like and very furry. He wrapped his tail around my arm, pressing himself further into me.
Only minutes later I dare to speak, asking him why he's out here, again. The hybrid raised his head to look at me while speaking. "No one wants me", he mumbled sadly, "only get abandoned"

My heart clenched hearing that. How can someone leave such a vulnerable creature alone? Cautiously, I move my hand to curl my fingers through his hear, lightly scratching behind his cat ears. "What's your name little one?", i asked, the nickname having slipped out without thinking. "Sonny"
He closed his eyes, purring. Pressing more into my warmth. "How long have you been out here alone?", I asked, hoping not to scare him away. I saw tears well up in his eyes. "Few days.", Sonny mumbled.

"How about you come home with me, little one?"
"Really? You would do that?"
The kitten snuggled into me and looked hopeful. I hugged him tightly, brushing through his hair gently. "Of course I would." His tail wrapped itself around my waist while his arms engulfed my shoulders. I gave him a soft kiss on the forehead and rested my head on his. "I'll keep you safe, I promise"
