66: best friend day/Harplyn

"Hey Wyatt!", my best friend Harper yelled through the hallway. I turned around, hugging him when he reached me. "How are you?", he asked me smiling. I nodded at him, indicating that I was fine.

You see, I was partly mute. It's not that I couldn't talk, sometimes I just choose not to. Or sometimes I'm not even able too. When I meet new people, they might think that I'm deaf, seeing as I'm not always responding. But I'm not, it's just exhausting to do so all the time.

"Ready for today?", Harper asked and I nodded again as an answer. We had decided to go watch a film in the cinema. I just had to get through this school day first. When the bell rang, we parted and walked to our first lesson. Since the blonde was a year older than me, we didn't have any classes together.

We met each other again after school. Harper waited forme in front of it. I hugged him, taking in his scent to calm me down a bit. He had that effect on me. This day had been exhausting. My best friend hugged me back, taking me into his strong arms. "Exhausting?", he asked. I nodded. "Did you have to talk much?" I moved my head left and right slowly, meaning 'just a bit'. "Well, we're going to the cinema now and you're with me, so you can relax npow. You don't have to talk more than you want to.", he mumbled. I pulled out of the embrace, smiling at him, kissing his cheek to show my appreciation for him.

"Wow, the film was really good", I said as we left the cinema. "And funny too." "Yeah, it was",  harper agreedwith me. We talked about the film for a bit, analysing its content. I already felt way better talking. The two hours of not having to talk at all, just concentrating on the film and the fact that it was Harper I was talking to helped a lot. "Do you still have time or do you have to go home already?", I asked my best friend and he told me he had time. "Do you want to go somewhere, eat something?" He nodded and we agreed on our favourite restaurant. We walked to the underground station to get there.

Once we arrived there, we went inside. Since it was a self-service restaurant, we went to the front desk to get a card. On this card will be booked everything we eat and drink. Afterwards you go to the cash desk and give the cashier the card to pay. At the food point we queued up. We tought about what to eat and finally decided. When it was our turn, I pushed Harper forward to order for the both of us. He already knew what I wanted, since I told him before. Also, he knew that he would have to order because of my disability to talk sometimes and my social anxiety. After we got our food, we searched for a free table and sat down.

Finishing eating, we stood up and payed. Once we were outside, I looked at the time on my phone. It was already late and my mother expected me home soon. "I have to go home.", I said in a sad voice. "Okay, but I'll see you tomorrow, right?", my best friend asked. I nodded enthusiastically. "I hope you had fun today." Again I nodded. It was really a cool day. And it helped me a lot to relax after school. Then we hugged goodbye, me breathing in his calming scent. I didn't want to let go, but after some time I had to. He kissed my cheek and then we parted to go home. Waving one last time, I turned around. Today was the best day in weeks.
