"Grandpa!" Your grandchildren cried as they ran into your husband's lap. "What was it like going on tour?"
"Yeah! Seeing the world!"
"Meeting new people!"
"Meeting famous people!"
You covered your mouth with your hand, trying to hide the laughter that was falling from your lips. Shawn gave you a sideways glance as he helped your grandchildren - all under the age of ten, to climb on top of the couch with him.
"Touring was amazing at times. The things I saw and did. The different cultures. And everyone whom I met had a different story - famous or not," Shawn tickled your youngest grandson. "It is something that I do miss doing, standing on stage and singing,"
"But Grandpa," one of your granddaughters chuckled, "you and Grandma sing all the time,"
"Yeah! You sing more than talk,"
You couldn't hold in your laughter.
"Grandma come sit with us!"
You smiled and sat on the couch with Shawn. Your grandson crawling over to your lap. His eyes looking up at you. "What was touring like for you?"
"It was fun when I got to go. But I had a job to so I couldn't be away for long," you sighed. "I loved touring but when I couldn't go I missed your grandpa, but when I didn't go, I missed my friends,"
You didn't talk to your parents - losing contact with them after you left home to follow Shawn. Your husband reached over and grabbed your hand.
"As amazing touring was," Shawn said, "it was hard to leave my family and of course your grandma,"
"Grandpa," your eldest grandchild tapped Shawn's cheek, "if it's hard, then why did you leave? Why did daddy leave?"
Your eyes softened as water started to fill your granddaughter's eyes. Her father - your son- had grown up to be like his Father. He had started his own band in high school and now they tour the world, creating albums.
"I left because it was my dream to create happiness for everyone, to change people's lives. I was very lucky that your Grandma was supportive of me, otherwise - well I don't know,"
Shawn hugged all his grandkids and reached for you to join us well. "That is why I tell you to follow and fight for your dreams. No matter how ridiculous or wild they seem. Do you all promise me that?"
"Yes Grandpa!" They all said in unison.
"What about you Grandma? What is your dream?"
You smiled and kissed your granddaughter's forehead. "You are - all of you are. My dream was to marry your Grandpa and have a big family with him. No matter where in the world he was, I always knew that he was endgame,"
You leaned in and kiss your husband.
"Grandma!" You grandson laughed, "endgame is a movie."
This chapter is a small snippet from a book I am currently writing called 'Reality of Touring'
