"What about this job y/n?" Your father said without looking up from his laptop. "It says here it is perfect for high school and university students and you're guaranteed at least fifteen hours,"
"I get ten at the café,"
"But it changes,"
"So?"
"So, it's unpredictable," your dad huffed. "How about an admin role?"
"I'm happy where I am,"
"I don't think you understand y/n,"
"Of course I don't," you muttered quietly enough. Grabbing your phone from the edge of the couch you sent a quick text to your best friend who had their licence.
"Have you chosen what degree you are doing?"
"Not yet," you then told him what you were thinking of doing.
"No, you won't be able to do anything with that," He then told you what you should be doing. You closed your eyes for a few seconds trying to hold the tears at bay. You jumped when you heard the doorbell.
You raced to the door and saw your best friend holding her keys. She then mouthed the words, "Need a ride?"
"It's y/b/f. I'll be back tomorrow, I'm sleeping over her place,"
"You didn't tell me that!" Your Dad scolded.
"It was last minute. Her parents are going out and she didn't want to be alone,"
"Fine. But I better not find out you are going to that Shawn's house,"
"What is wrong with Shawn?"
"He is no good for you. If I didn't step in when I did, who knew what other mistakes you would have made,"
"Excuse me?"
"The black sheep of the family," Your father said as a matter of fact. Feeling the tears on the brim of your eyes you slammed the door shut on your way out. You jumped into the passenger seat of your friend's car.
"Are you ok?"
"Drive," you said, your voice barely audible. Your best friend nodded and reversed out of your driveway.
"Thank you," you whispered after a minute.
"Anytime y/n. Shawn's right?"
You nodded. Once you arrived you hugged your best friend. "I heard what you said to your Father, I'll make sure my parents go with the story if he decides to call,"
"Thank you,"
"Text me when you want to go home,"
"I will," you then turned and walked to the front door of your boyfriend's house. By the time his mother answered the door, your arms were wrapped around yourself and tears were slowly sliding down your cheeks.
"Oh y/n," Karen pulled you inside the house then called for Shawn. This has happened a few times where you would turn up at their door. However, this was the first time you had broken down. "Do you want hot chocolate?"
You nodded, "Is that ok?"
"Of course, I'll be right back,"
"Y/n?" You turned at Shawn's voice. "Y/n what happened?"
You didn't think twice before running to his arms. "My Dad,"
Shawn didn't even have to ask what happened. He knew that your dad was tough, but whatever had happened must have gotten to you, since very rarely do you cry. "I'm sorry," you muffled into his shirt.
"Don't be," Shawn ran his fingers through your hair. "Let's go sit on the couch,"
"Here is your hot chocolate," Karen re-entered the room. "Are you going to stay the night?"
"Can I?"
"Of course, I'll go change Shawn's sheets," Karen smiled before leaving the room again.
"It's ok y/n," Shawn said
"He called me the black sheep. He's controlling me again!" You shook your head. "I hate this. I hate feeling trapped in my own house. I don't even know why I am crying, I should be used to this. I'm stronger than this,"
"Y/n," Shawn took your drink and placed it on the table so he could hold your hands. "You are unbelievingly strong. And everyone has their limits. You crying," he wiped away your tears with his thumbs, "it means that you have been strong for too long,"
"Really?" You sniffed.
"Really," he smiled and kissed your forehead, letting his lips linger on your skin. You tucked your head under his chin so you could rest on his chest.
He stroked your hair and softly sang to you. He smiled when he heard the sound of soft snoring. His mother came downstairs with a sympathetic look on her face. "Is she ok?"
"Not mentally," Shawn sighed. "One day, I'm going to get her out of that house. I love her too much to see her hurt,"
"Why don't you?" Karen raised an eyebrow.
"You don't mean...?" Shawn trailed off.Karen nodded her head. "It's obvious that she loves you and that you love her. And it's not like we don't have the room,"
"I love you mum,"
"I love you too," Karen kissed her son's cheek. "Now, why don't you put her in your bed, you break the news to her tomorrow morning. Oh, and can you put the trash out like I have asked you over a dozen times!"
