You were laying on the couch with your husband. Your kids were at their friend's house for a party so you and Shawn got your much needed alone time. The two of you spoke the words of the Harry Potter movie on the projector screen. You loved your house, the front room was basically a cinema with many leather lounges that were perfect for cuddling in.

Shawn groaned when your phone rang. "Babe, you know the rules. No phones in the movie room,"

You rolled off him and saw the caller ID. "I have to get this,"

Shawn paused the movie as you answered your phone. "Hey Dad,"

"Hey y/n, are you free at the moment?"

"I guess, is everything ok? You don't sound alright,"

"Just, please get to your grandparents' house as soon as possible,"

"Yeah, sure I'm on my way," You ended the call and shot off the couch.

"Y/n what's wrong?" Shawn came up behind you and rubbed your arms.

"I don't know. Dad sounded worried on the phone," You quickly put your shoes on and raced to the kitchen to grab your keys. You turned to Shawn and placed your hands on his shoulders. "It's probably nothing, but can you get the kids? The party finishes at four-ish,"

"Of course," Shawn kissed your forehead, "we'll talk when you get home."

Shawn was awake when you arrived home late. It was past midnight when you stepped into your bedroom, the only light being from the lamp. Shawn shot up from the bed when he saw your dishevelled look.

"Babe?" He asked. You responded with a sniffle. You lifted your head and he saw that your eyes were red and puffy. "Y/n what happened?"

You crawled over to him and laid on his body. He pulled your face into his chest as you cried. You fisted his shirt, needed something to hold on to. Once you calmed down you sat up but stayed close to your husband.

"It's my grandfather," you sobbed. "He has to do a simple surgery, but because he has weak heart, he-he-" You broke down again.

"It's alright y/n, just tell me what else happened,"

"My father called a meeting. The whole family was there to discuss if he should do the surgery or not. Shawn, the doctors are afraid that my grandfather won't wake due to the anesthetic,"

"But he will still be here, and he can wake up again,"

"Shawn," you shook your head. "My grandfather has anxiety, so they believe that he will get worked up and have a heart attack. There is no win-win situation,"

"What if he doesn't go through the surgery?"

"Then he will be in a lot of pain. I missed what the surgery was for, but I know that if my grandfather is pushing for the surgery, with the risk of not coming back, then he is in much pain,"

You cried into his chest. You didn't know what to do or say. For the rest of the night, Shawn held you, keeping you close because you needed him.
