Lainey woke up in a damp bed. At first she thought she wet herself, but then she recalled the events of last night. Getting out of bed she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror. A smile escaped her lips when she realized she was still wearing Peter's sweatshirt.
While she was getting ready in the morning all she could think about was last night with Peter. She couldn't stop. To her she had no reason to. Last night was filled with joy, unspeakable joy that she had never experienced, and she wanted to never forget it.
Lainey was still smiling and thinking about the fair as she walked into the kitchen. Wanda was cooking herself eggs, and she immediately saw Lainey's smile.
"What are you smiling about?" Wanda asked as she simultaneously mashed the eggs.
"Nothing." Lainey replied wiping the smile off her face.
"You know I could just find out for myself." Wanda added creating a red wisp after setting the spatula down.
"Not that you would," Lainey smirked sitting down at the counter across from Wanda.
Wanda simply inquired with a grin, "How do you know that?"
Realizing Wanda would find out one way or another, Lainey asked once more, "Well, do you really want to know?"
"Yes, even though I already have a feeling where this is going," Wanda replied brushing the eggs onto a plate for both herself and for Lainey.
Wanda set the plate in front of Lainey. Lainey didn't expect that. "Thanks," she added before carrying on. "It's nothing much, honestly. I was just thinking of some of the stuff Peter and I talked about at the fair." Lainey explained as calmly as possible. To show that even more, she took a bite of the scrambled eggs.
"You like him don't you?" Wanda finally said after staring intently at Lainey.
"No." Lainey bluffed trying her best to not throw herself under the bus.
"That's too bad because he likes you." Wanda smirked.
"Sure." Lainey rolled her eyes not believing her.
"It's true." She confirmed smiling even larger.
Just then, Lainey realized that Wanda could easily find out what people think. With that knowledge Lainey yelled, "Wanda! You didn't!"
"I couldn't help myself." Wanda commented while walking towards the sink.
"When?" Lainey questioned.
"A while ago." Wanda replied nonchalantly while putting her dish in the sink.
"When." Lainey pushed.
"The morning we found you two in Tony's theater," Wanda finally stated
"Really!" Lainey said shocked it was then and that it happened even at all.
"Yeah." Wanda confirmed still smiling.
"What are you two girls up to?" Clint asked walking into the kitchen.
"Nothing much. Just eating food." Lainey replied lifting her fork of eggs up.
"Cool. Will you grab me that bar, Lainey." Clint said pointing to the protein bar on the corner of the counter.
"Sure." Lainey replied reaching for the bar. Once she had it she tossed it over to him. Clint caught it with ease and then added,
"By the way, the whole team has conditioning today, together. Steve wanted me to remind you." Then he left.
"I'm going to head out too." Wanda stated walking away.
"Okay, see ya." Lainey said standing up to put her plate in the sink. After, she decided she'd relax for a few minutes on the couch. She just couldn't believe that Peter liked her. Wanda wouldn't have lied about that. Lainey knew that much.
Peter liked her. Lainey didn't know how to feel about that. It was sort of refreshing. For once someone liked her, but she couldn't tell if she liked him. She had nothing to judge that off of. Of course, Lainey over thought this all.
She liked hanging out with him. She liked his personality. She liked how he was always nice and understanding to her. She liked how he never judged her. She thought he was sort of cute. She knew he was funny. After reviewing these things she realized that she liked him too.
She liked him and he liked her. Lainey didn't know how to feel. For once in her life, someone felt the same way that she felt about them. Hardly could she ever experience that, but now she could with Peter. Not just Peter, she realized, but also with her friends in this tower. They all treat her like part of them, like they're all family.
Before she decided to get ready for training, Lainey pulled out her phone and texted Peter.
