The clock struck 6am and the eldest turtle was the first to rise, he got out of bed and stretch slightly his right shoulder popped slightly causing him to cringe before he opened his door. He walked out of his room and heard his brothers slowly getting out of bed too.
Soon enough he saw Raph and Donnie file out of their rooms followed by a sleepy Michelangelo, the four teenage turtles walked to the main room expecting to see an empty couch with a neatly folded blanket and pillow but that's not what they were greeted with.
No, on the couch lay a sleeping Katharine...she looked comfortable and judging by the dark circles that were visible even under her mask she needed the rest. Leo smiled softly as he walked over to the couch leaning on the back of it taking in the white masked turtle's features.
His brothers did the same but they stayed back ready to run if the female were to wake up, after a couple seconds the four males made their way to the kitchen...Mikey who was now more awake than a few moments again spoke up, "Leo do you know what happened to Kat's right eye...how'd she get that scar?"
The eldest male mutant looked to his youngest brother and shrugged slightly, "She's had it ever since I met her so I don't know what it came from." The youngest of the four nodded slightly as they fell into silence once more, the orange clad prankster started preparing breakfast while Leo started brewing some tea.
Raph and Donnie fixed themselves some water while they waited for Mikey to finish making the food, they heard some rustling coming from the main room as Kat got up. She folded the blanket like she has turned into a habit and placed the pillow on top, she stretched causing her shoulders and neck to pop loudly.
She sighed slightly and walked to the kitchen having smelt the food Mikey was making, she wasn't hungry so she just planned on drinking some water. She nodded to the boys and she walked in and fixed herself a glass of water, Leo nodded to her and took a sip of his tea. Raph and Donnie offered soft good mornings before drinking their own waters, Mikey was busy making food so he just raised his spatula in a greeting before flipping the pancake he was creating.
Kat leaned against the counter and swirled the water in her glass slightly careful not to spill anyway as she watched the small whirlpool she had made die down, no one said anything maybe it was because it was still early and the peaceful atmosphere of the small kitchen was too precious to break...or it could be the fact that everyone was still trying to wake up.
Kat finished her glass of water and sat it to the side, she watched the four brothers move around one another to get the things they wanted before settling in a chair or leaned against the wall. The white clad turtle couldn't help the small smile that pulled at her lips as she watched something that was so simple yet coordinated, as she was growing up she never had to dodge a hot pan all the while trying to get a glass of water.
She was always alone, even when she lived with the old man back in Japan she never had to worry about bumping into him in the kitchen because he never let her inside the house...she slept outside in a small shed that held the rakes the old man used for his stone garden.
She never experienced a stable roof over her head or a family, well that is until now. She picked up her abandoned glass and sat it in the sink before moving to the door, she didn't want to leave the domestic scene she had just witnessed but some pain in her chest told her to go.
She walked to the couch and sat down she picked up the sheathes that housed her beloved katanas and sighed as she pulled the strap over her head, the pain in her chest didn't go away but didn't grow worse so she didn't worry about it.
The white masked mutant picked up her notebook but didn't flip to the page she had previously been working on, no she went to an earlier page where the cream colored paper was filled with ink written words instead of graphite. The pages showed their age as the corners had started to turn a dark orange color, as she flipped through the pages she arrived at the one she was looking for.
On the old mostly orange page was beautiful ink markings that connected in the right ways to spell out her name, the kanji was followed by a pressed cherry blossom that had been stuck in the crease of the book. As she turned the page again many new clippings almost fell out of the aged notebook, each titled similarly because all spoke of the mysterious 'White Shadow'.
Kat smiled sadly as her eyes landed on her old nickname the press had given her, memories glided through her mind as she remembered all the times she'd hear people talk about her and what they thought about what she was doing. She didn't feel anything at the time because back then she only saw the press as an invasion of privacy sure she liked that the world knew someone was out there trying to stop the gangs but having them document what cities she would hit and what gangs she took out only made her a bigger target.
However now that she looks back she misses it, the thrill of never know when a gang would strike...the hope that filled her heart when she would see positive news articles about her. She missed it all, but she wouldn't go back to that life...no she had a home. She had Leo and his family, she wouldn't change that for the world...she loved them all and would do anything to keep them safe.
Anything.
Even if it meant leaving them, she would walk out of her new life if it meant they would be safe...if it meant Leo would be safe then she'd leave. She loved the blue banded turtle too much to watch him get hurt because of her, sighing the white masked female closed the notebook and sat it on top of her pillow that rested on her folded blanket.
She got to her feet, adjusted her katanas sheath and walked out of the underground lair...she didn't have a destination in mind she just let her feet carry her to where ever they wanted. Her crystal eyes remained forward never straying from her path to look back at the lair...she just kept walking.
