24.

Emerald greeted me with a hug from behind and a "good morning" in an oddly cheerful way. She would usually greet me in a normal hey best friend I'm-seeing-your-face-again -but-that's-not-something-new-to-me-so-a-hi-would-suffice kind of way. I couldn't help but wonder if this had something to do with the disastrous date she had.

"Wow, I never thought you'd take what happened last Saturday like this," I said to Emerald who was waiting for me while I shut my locker close as I struggled with my books.

"What did you expect?" She asked with a sigh as she decided to take some of the stuff from my arms, "that I'll be moping and crying around like some lovesick girl? Please," she added with a roll of her eyes.

To be honest, I was really impressed with my best friend because some people would actually cry and mope like it was the end of the world, while the other half would go the bitter route and seek revenge. I actually expected her to do the latter.

"You know what A, I think you're right. Whoever is meant for me will arrive at the right time in the right circumstance. Ezra was just a stupid boy and the only thing I regret was having a crush on him. I just realize now how disgusting he truly-" Emerald paused as she tugged my shirtsleeve a bit too harshly, "speak of the devil and the devil shall appear," she said, her cheerful demeanor quickly changed into something evil, and I was starting to have a really bad feeling about it.

I craned my neck to see what Emerald was looking at, and there he was standing by a huge Theater Guild poster, Ezra Levine."Just ignore him Ems, you still have Calculus remember?" I breathed as I nudged my best friend to move the other way.

"Yeah I'll ignore him alright," Emerald replied but I was worried when she pushed my arm away, "after I give him a piece of me."

Emerald stormed off towards where he was standing, a couple of my books still snuggled in one arm. I never even had the chance to stop her as she landed a fist straight on his face. I gasped in horror as I dashed towards them but everything was happening so fast I just couldn't step in and help or whatever.

The next thing I knew, Ezra Levine was already on the floor his nose already Red with blood and that Mr. Highmore our Guidance Councilor was the one to pull Emerald away from Ezra, preventing her from smashing my AP Biology book on his already bloody face.

I shook my head in disbelief as I watched Mr. Highmore say something inaudible to the two of them. Emerald glanced at my direction and nodded her head like 'I'm okay' but still, here I thought she was going to take it maturely and move on but now, she could just herself get in serious trouble.

I looked down on my wrist watch and sighed. I'm almost late for Literature. I then bravely walked up to where the three of them were standing and greeted Mr. Highmore a good morning before I took my books from Emerald's clutches.

The thing about Literature class with Mrs. Mackenzie is that she doesn't bother with seating arrangements. "I want my students to be free to choose the best place in this four cornered room to appreciate the art of literature," that was what she said on our first day. But my classmates seemed to have an internal seating arrangement in mind that's why we stuck to the same seats for weeks, unless someone gets bored and decides to switch to a different seat. This time that person was me.

I decided to sit by the window to at least get a little fresh air. My morning started with a hell lot of action, all thanks to Emerald and her anger management issues. I rubbed the sides of my head with my fingers in an attempt to massage it when I heard the chair beside me creak.
