I pull up to the hospital in my Army green Jeep Wrangler with my hair knotted in a messy bun and bark bags under my deep blue eyes.
I jump out of my Jeep, grab my bag and fling it over my shoulder and slam the door shut.
I walk up to the hospital's entrance and sigh heavily before walking up to the automatic sliding glass doors.
A woman wearing a warm pink blouse typing away on a computer sees me and waves me over.
"I'm guessing your Megan?" The Lady gives me a warm smile that kinda makes me feel a bit better, but also making me uneasy because she knows who I am.
"Um yeah how did you know that?" I try to ask politely even though I'm a bit on edge.
"Your grandma keeps calling in and asking when a young lady around your age with red hair and blue eyes will come in." She offers me another smile making me a little uncomfortable.
"Oh yeah, that's me. well um I'm here now, So can you possibly tell me what room she's in?" trying to be nice I finally offer her a smile of my own.
The lady tells me the room number and I rush off to see my grandma.
I walk down the hall slowly so I have time to gain confidence and not run out of this building crying like a baby.
I hate hospitals, they just give me the creeps. And the smell gives me a slight headache.
I walk up to the elevator and press the button for the second floor and wait patiently.
Once the doors open I dramatically take a deep breath in and step out into the hallway.
I find the room my grandmas and I walk up to the open door and I see a nurse helping her sit up on the bed that's in a small dark room.
Before I walk into the room I look around. I gave a disgusting look towards the small bathroom in the corner with a door that's barely on the hinges, and a nasty toilet in the corner of the tiny bathroom.
When the nurse finally finished helping my grandma sit up I walk over and give my grandma what is hopefully a reassuring smile and a small wave.
"Oh Hello hunny, come on in here and let me see you, it's been forever!" My grandma waves me over with her dainty hand.
I slowly enter the hospital room and walk over to the side of her bed, I look to the IV's connected to her arms, and the heart monitor quietly beeping.
"Hunny, don't worry about me. We all know that my time is almost up." She gives me a small smile and grabs my hand and gently pulls me to sit in the chair next to her bed.
Her hands were ice cold and she looked a lot paler since the last time I saw her. which was about a year or two ago.
"But grandma, I can't. I need you. Please don't leave me." I sniffled a bit and rub my eyes.
"You don't need me child, you just want to have me around." My grandma winks at me, and all I can give her is a week smile in return.
"But grandma-
"No, don't finish that sentence. Just listen to me for a few minutes. I want to tell you a few things," my grandma takes my other hand and pulls me closer.
"You're an extremely smart young lady and you have the most beautiful heart. You can put a smile on everyone's face by just being in the room." My grandma chuckles a bit at the end and continues talking.
"You mean so much to me and the thought of you crying about my death sadness me. And I want you to live your life and know that I will always be here with you. You don't need to worry about me hunny, that's not your job." My grandma winks and giggles before going into a coughing fit.
I frown and push myself up out of the chair and walk over to the small sink in the corner of the room and pour some water into a cup I found on the table next to it.
I walk back over to my coughing grandma and carefully hold up the cup to her mouth to help her drink up some of the water.
Once she calmed down she quietly thanked me and grabbed the cup out of my hand and put it on the table beside her.
"Thank you dear." My grandma tells me to sit in the chair and says that she's ok and that I don't need to call in a nurse.
"Are you sure you're ok grandma? You don't look too good." I sigh and pick up her hand and give it a gentle squeeze.
"Child, it's my time. You just have to accept that. But let me finish what I was saying." I nod my head in agreement and lean my back against the chair with my hand still in hers.
"Megan, you are the most beautiful girl, and you deserve so much in life. I don't want you to stress over me. I know I will be tuff but I know you can still live your life without me, and you're just going to have to accept that." My grandma finishes and takes a sip of her water.
"I know for a fact that you will become an amazing woman and have beautiful kids." My grandmama squeezes my hand and smiles at me.
I grin sheepishly and pull a strand of my hair that fell out of my bun behind my ear.
"Aw thank you so much grandma, you have no idea how much that means to me." I chuckle and look back up to her.
Before my grandma had a chance to speak again a nurse came in a told me that visiting hours were almost over and that we need to wrap up our conversation.
Me and my grandma both nod our heads and the nurse squeezes my shoulder.
"Grandma we don't have much time." I sigh and remove my hand from my grandmas and take my hair out if the bun and run my fingers through it.
"Hunny we all knew this day would come. You just have to keep your head held high and just know that I will always be with you. Go follow your dreams and don't let anyone stop you from doing so. You make the most out of your time on this planet. And don't let people push you around." My grandma takes my hands again and hugs them to her chest.
"Grandma I love you."
"I love you too dear. Don't forget what I said."
"I couldn't even if I tried" I grin and giggle a bit and my grandma lets my hands go. Before I was about to leave the room my grandma had one more thing to say.
"I see myself in you, but you go be the better version of me." my grandma winks right as a nurse closes the door to her room leaving me with only my thoughts.
I sigh and look behind me to the door and the nurse gives me a reassuring smile. I return the smile and walk back down the hall and into the elevator.
I hold my breath not knowing if I can keep the tears from slipping out, I rush out of the elevator and practically run passed the lady in pink, and jog back to my jeep. I throw open the door and slam it shut.
I hold my head in my hands and let myself weep.
That was the last time I got to see my grandma.

Hey guys so this story's message means a lot to me because my grandma was in the hospital a few days ago and this was all the things she, unfortunately, didn't say to me. My grandma is definitely the complete opposite of the character's grandma.
I wrote this story because this is all the things I wish my grandma was and the things I wish she'd say to me.
But anyway my grandma is ok she's back home now and all is good (for now, there's always something going on with her)
But thank you all for reading this story if y'all have any questions don't hesitate to ask and if you have any ideas for my next story please let me know.
Don't be a silent reader tell me y'alls thoughts! ❤️
