Elle's outfit ^^^

Elle

Sunday morning. Nine in the morning, I'm supposed to be sleeping. Not standing in a pew filled with old ladies who smell like baby powder and perfume.

My grandma "surprised" us by driving the agonizing thirty minutes from her town to ours to take us to church. Except my mom excused my siblings from their Sunday duties, claiming the week had drained them and they needed sleep.

But take Elle why don't you? She could use it.

I almost snorted when my mom practically begged my grandma to take me.

"Well of course I would! I feel as if I hadn't seen my honey bunches in ages!" She fans herself and decides to go through my closet and dig up a modest enough dress.

She's searching the wrong closet.

"I guess this'll have to do." She lays out a dress for me and returns to the living room so I can change. I don't take long, as I'd rather get this day over with. I go to the living room, wearing a spaghetti strapped blue and white dress with a white cardigan and brown wedges. My hair is straight and my makeup is natural.

"My my, you're getting too pretty for your own good." I smile at my grandma before getting into her car that reaks of her Versace perfume so bad I thought I might suffocate.

Now here I am. Sitting in the front row, praying. Kneeling.  Standing. Sitting. Kneeling. Standing. Sitting. Finally it's over and we sit through the Priests announcements before we finally walk out and onto the church steps where grandma stands to mingle with her friends and I wait by the railing off to the side.

"Elle?" I freeze up and the hairs stand up all over my body in excitement just from hearing his voice. I turn to see Damon holding Emma's hand.

My Sunday just got a lot better.

"Mr. Russell." I nod my head at him with a smile playing on my lips and he catches on, nodding along with me.

"Princess Elle!"

I hear before I feel her clinging onto my legs.

"Well hey pretty girl!" She beams up at me so I kneel to her level and give her a hug.

Damon walks closer to me until we're on the same step in front of the church. It's only now that I see he has a huge diaper bag over his shoulder

How can he still manage to look so fucking hot while carrying a pink diaper bag?

"I didn't know you came to church." He says smiling at me.

"I haven't been in a while. I don't mind it, it's just kind of weird." I look up at the building that has always been such a huge deal for my family.

I was baptized here.

I ignore the pain in my chest and focus on Damon while I'm holding onto Sarah's little hand.

"I didn't know you came to church either." I say matter of factly.

"Well I haven't in a while either, but I feel it's important for Emma. I was hesitant on coming today, wasn't sure if I'd catch fire as soon as I crossed the threshold." He joked and I nodded.

"I thought the same thing." He's about to say something when we're interrupted.

"Are you ready honey bunches?" My grandma wraps an arm around me and I blush at the nickname while Damon's smile widens.

My grandmas gaze goes from me, to Emma starched to my legs, to Damon c

"Well hello, you are?" She extends a hand and Damon takes it.

"Damon Russell, it's nice to meet you Mrs...?"

"MS. Carter, but you can call me Helen sweetheart."

I roll my eyes as Damon smirks at me before returning his gaze the the flirtatious old lady next to me.

"It's a pleasure to meet you."

My grandma laughs and I can see her blush making me laugh too.

"Well I was going to take Emma out for pancakes, would you lovely ladies like to join us?"

"Oh, no-"

"Yes!"

Damon chuckles and Emma reaches up for me but Damon is quick to grab her with his empty arm as she pouts.

Aw I wish I could carry her.

I pout too and Damon laughs before telling us the restaurant to meet him.

We get a square table with one seat on each side. My grandma sat across from Damon, I sat next to Damon and across from Emma.

Was this a bad idea?

As we're eating my grandma tries to make small talk. She keeps on asking questions and they're keeping me on edge.

"So how do you know my granddaughter?"

"I'm a coach for the high school." He says vaguely which I am so happy for.

"Elle I didn't know you played sports." My grandma looks over at me.

"Oh, Elle's my favorite." He nods over at me with a small smile and I blush.

"Excuse me." I go to the bathroom and immediately call Lea.

"Hello?" Her groggy voice comes through the speaker.

"Lea I need help. I'm freaking the fuck out!"

"Woah woah woah, you can't wake me up with that! At least give me a shot first." I can hear her fumbling to get out of bed and I groan.

"Lea I'm serious. I'm with Damon and my grandma RIGHT NOW."

"Wait, your grandma knows Coach Russell?"

"No! We ran into him at church and he insisted we all have breakfast together." I pace the bathroom as Lea laughs into the phone.

"Wait you went to church? And you aren't a pile of ash yet?"

"Yes Lea keep up! We're eating right now and I feel like I'm going to choke on my pancake every time my grandma asks a question." I pout and she sighs.

"All you have to do is smile and nod your pretty little head until it's over okay?"

I nod, forgetting she can't see me and she laughs.

"Practicing already?" I laugh now too.

"Shut up. Thank you. I'll call you after?"

"Mmh, I'll call you. I'm going back to sleep."

I look in the mirror before letting out a deep breath.

I walk out of the bathroom ready for the rest of this horrifying breakfast before I bump into a body.

"I'm so sor-" I begin to apologize but stop when I look up and see who it is.

"Well hey doll face. Long time no see Love."
