The target of your contract was gone. You didn't know how they knew they were wanted. You angrily kicked some rocks.
"How?! This is impossible!" "Cicero is sure we will find him. He can't have gotten far." "Wait, did you hear that?" you looked around, scanning the whole area. "Hey!" you gulped. "Thugs. Run!" you grabbed Cicero's hand and quickly sped off.
"That's what you get from snooping around in other people's houses." You looked down while Astrid scolded you. "(Y/n), you're an assassin, not a thief." "I know.. But you know that i just can't keep my hands to myself." "At least try to control it."
You nodded and went to eat dinner with the others. "Heard some thugs were after you. Hope you gave them a good thrashing." "Nazir, you know he isn't much of a fighter. He's an alchemist, he uses poison. He doesn't fight." "And he attacks at night and from behind. He's way more clever than our pup-" "Festus!"
Arnbjorn was clearly pissed by Festus' comment. You ate in silence and Cicero held your hand. At night you snuck into bed with him. With this insane jester that loves you more even than the night mother.
"I love you, (y/n)." "I love you too." he gave you a sweet kiss. You snuggled close and enjoyed his warmth. Enjoyed that he was alive. "Cicero?" "Yes?" "I want to marry you. You never know how long you will have the other in these times. Let alone the fact that we are assassins."
He hugged you tightly. "Cicero will do everything you wish for. Well, nearly everything. Cicero can't leave mother alone, you know." you nodded and smiled a little.
"Wake up, (y/n)." you slowly opened one eye. "We have to go." "What do you mean?" "Cicero loaded mother's coffin onto the carriage. We can go wherever we want now." "How did you..?" "Fustus helped Cicero. He said we should find our happiness."
"But what about our family? Can we really leave them behind?" "If we don't then we will never be able to go. Didn't you want to see the other worlds? Morrowind? Hammerfell?" you saw how he started to doubt if his action was right.
"Of course i do. I just-" "You don't love me." "What?" "You don't love Cicero! You just lied to him!" "Cicero, you know i would never- No, what are you doing?!"
He started attacking you with his dagger. You screamed for mercy as the blade sunk into your body again and again but the earth walls just absorbed the sound.
You laid there on the ground, heavily bleeding, too weak to even heal yourself with a spell. He stared at what he had done in shock. He dropped the dagger and ran to get you help. You coughed up blood and tried to drag yourself into the nearest corner of the room.
'Devines help me. Why is he doing this if he said he loved me?' you started to black out when Festus lifted you onto the bed. "Everything will be alright, (y/n)."
When you woke up your whole body was cramping. For days on end the others had to keep Cicero away from you. You would scream in panic whenever you were just in the same room as him.
Should this really be the way you saw the person you loved? Did you maybe even love the wrong person? You were terrified of him. And yet you wanted to be close to him again. But what did you promise yourself from it? Being stabbed again? Maybe even burnt alive? He was insane after all.
You tried to find a way around it. To find a way in wich you could be close to him. But you just couldn't. Not only that you now had major trust issues. Your face was also disfigured. You looked nothing like yourself anymore, having cuts all over your face. Some even down to the bone.
You wore your hood and scarf at all times, not wanting anybody to see it. Not even those who already did. You felt ugly. Undesireable. You would never be able to find someone else if you looked like this.
"A-astrid?" she looked up at you. "Yes?" "I-i will to go to Riften. The face sculptor is my last piece of hope. Maybe she can save at least a little bit of what i looked like.."
You started the journey on your own. If you died looking like this then it wouldn't mattera anyways. The way into the ragged flagon was easier than expected. Invisibility potions and sneaking did the trick.
"E-excuse me? A-are you the face sculptor?" the woman eyed you. "Yes. And for payment i do whatever you want." "H-how much would that be?" "1000 gold, no matter what." you removed your hood and scarf. "C-can you work with this?"
Her eyes widened a bit. "Well, this is.. Quite a lot.. But i'm the face sculptor. I will do it." You gave her a picture of how you looked before and the gold. She worked on your face for hours. You felt nothing of it.
She even took on the task of repairing the rest of your body. You looked into the mirror and started crying. There was no trace of a scar having ever even existed. Your eyes weren't dull anymore.
You felt so complete again. Now you wouldn't have to hide any longer.
