Eddy thought about what might happen if he went back to the house and felt red hot embarrassment fill him to the brim. He looks over at Jim, who holds up his car keys in a 'are we going or not?' manner. Eddy nods toward the parking lot, and they both trudge down to Jim's Elantra.

He felt powerless, Like he was never going to change his family's mind about his sexuality. Like he was never going to win his grandmother back. "And what about Brett?" he mumbled. "Oh shit! What about Brett, Jim?"

"Uhh what about him?" Eddy realized his mistake. No one knew. At least, no one was supposed to know. "Well... It's just that we were hanging out and I suddenly left him. So we need to get him back." That's as good as Eddy could explain without giving anything away.

"That's fine." Jim began to turn the car around. Eddy nervously twiddled his thumbs, unable to properly grasp the situation.

They arrived at Eddy's house once again, Eddy got out the car and shuffled his way to the front door. After hesitating longer than necessary, he briskly opened the door to find Belle and his grandmother sitting alone on the couch. They didn't hear him come in.

"I think we should let him and Brett stay here, even if his mother condemns him." It was his grandmother's voice. Eddy began to tear up. Had they already called his parents? He sauntered over, the floorboards creaking, which drew the attention of the two females in the room.

"Eddy! Dear, you're back!" His grandmother yipped.

"Brett went out to look for you after you ran off," his sister added, unimpressed.

The telephone rang for at least 5 minutes before Belle ran to get it. "Hello? Mom...? Yes, well, he's here now... you have to talk to him." 

Belle motioned for Eddy to come to the phone. He put his ear to the speaker and managed to squeak out, "Hello, mum?"

"What are you doing? Your grandmother told me all about your little 'coming out' party."

He heard the faint sound of a car being started. "Mom, please I can't change-"

"I'm coming to set you straight." His mother cut the line. Eddy dropped to the floor and just sat there, staring, waiting. Time seemed to stop. He wanted Brett. He wanted to be held by him, to cry into his shoulder. Without any warning, Eddy felt the sharp sting of a hand hitting him square in the jaw, disorienting him as he tried to stand up. When his head had stopped twirling and he could see the face of his mother, Eddy broke down into tears. Anything he said was unintelligible through the sobbing.

"You're disgusting." His mothers words bore into his soul, and echoed throughout his head.

Eddy couldn't take it. He ran out the door, tears still cascading down his red face. Jim, who was watching the scene from afar, started up his car at the sight of Eddy sprinting towards him. Once Eddy had gotten in, Jim opened his mouth to say something, but was cut off by Eddy screaming, "GO! JUST GO, PLEASE!" 

Jim took off down the road to his apartment in silence. Still, there was no sign of Brett. Jim, having known Eddy so well, read Eddy's mind and asked, "Where could he have gone... Brett, I mean..."

"Uhm, since Belle said he was looking for me, let's check the coffee shop again," Eddy responded. The two rode with only the sound of the engine to fill their ears, until, the front of the small car was abruptly thrown up into the air. Eddy tasted puke in the back of his throat.

"FUCK!" Jim hollered, as the Elantra finally began to settle down. The pair got out of the car to see what had happened, and on the street, was an unconscious, bloodied body wearing a Ling Ling sweater.
