A minute

A minute is all it takes for your life to change completely.

A minute is what it took for my life to change, but the question was did it change for the better or for the worse?

I really didn't want to come on this journey with my parents but they insisted on me going with them to Sweden and to be specific the very north of Sweden so we could see the famous northern lights.

But what I didn't expect of this journey was for us to go on a cruise which was said to take us to the best spot where the northern lights are best seen at.

I really wasn't interested in all of this and I just wanted to go back home and read a book or something. Me being the weirdo of the family as my aunts put it. The only daughter/son out of three daughters/sons who was interested in books and studying.

But the second I saw those mesmerizing lights I couldn't look away or stop myself from walking over. One step two steps three steps and so it went on till I reached the very edge of the boat.

I held the railing tightly between my hands and leaned forward staring at the lights and it felt like I was under a curse and I wasn't able to break it and look away, not like I wanted to.

"Be careful" my mother said glancing at me for a second, but I didn't even hear her like I was in a trance.

A minute was all it took for me to loose my footing as the boat stopped moving so the people on it could watch the lights peaceful, except for me the idiot who didn't listen to instructions and stood at the very edge as the boat parked in the middle of the sea.

It took only a couple of seconds before I hit the ice cold water and for my family's screams to reach my ears but they immediately disappeared when I went under water.

I can't swim!! I yelled in my head feeling every cell in my body shaking in fear. All I could see was the surface getting more far away as I kicked and thrashed trying to reach it but it was no use.

That was when he appeared, an angel my angel. He appeared out of nowhere above me looking at me with confusion behind him the northern lights reflecting on his arms and face almost like a halo.

I looked all over him begging him for help but was shocked when I was met with the unexpected. He wasn't human, no he was a merman?

He wore nothing at all except for the tale which was covering his lower half. He can't be a merman, can he?

This is impossible yet here he is right in front of me in all of his mighty staring down at me with a triton in his left hand and his blue tale shimmering under the colorful lights.
