"Morning baby, did you-." I sleepily turned to the other side of the bed to find it empty, the covers bunched up a messy heap. Rubbing my eyes, I noticed a slip of paper left on her pillow. I reached over and grasped it, my eyes finally adjusting. Bean woke up hungry so I walked him to the mess hall to get some breakfast. I love you. -Stormer "God, I love her." I said aloud, combing my fingertips through my bed-ridden mess of hair.
"Here comes the potato train!" Stormer sang, aiming a spoonful of potatoes into Bean's open mouth.
"Morning, gorgeous." I slid into the vacant spot and kissed her on the cheek.
"Morning, daddy." Stormer replied. "Come on, Beanie! You gotta eat your potatoes!" I look over to see Bean, a grumpy expression on his face. "Baby, could you possibly help me out?"
"Sure. Hand me the spoon, would ya?" My girlfriend nods and places the utensil in my hand. "Hey, big boy! Can you eat your potatoes for Daddy? Open wide!" Bean screwed up his face and made a raspberry noise. "What the-."
Stormer erupted in a fit of laughter seconds later. "Oh my God! That was priceless!" She was bent over, holding her stomach.
"Feisty this morning, aren't we?" Scooping Bean into my arms, I cradled him as a grin crept up on my face. I couldn't help but smile at his adorableness.
"Looks like somebody's finally inherited the feisty from their mother." Levi said from behind me.
"Oh, shut up." Stormer giggled.
"I actually came over to tell you we're going into town today and we'll be passing your old house on the way."
The smile on Stormer's face disappeared. "Oh. Why are you telling me this?"
"I just thought you might want to go back and relive those days before everything went to hell. Not that I want to bring your traumatic past back or anything."
"I'll think about it." Stormer quietly replied, her finger tracing circles on the tabletop.
"We're moving out in a few minutes, so be ready by then." Levi informed us before walking out.
"Old house?" I asked.
"Yeah. I wanna go back, but at the same time I don't. I want to remember everything before my mom and dad died, but I'm afraid it'll bring back the bad memories too."
I could see the sad uncertainty in her eyes and I tilted her chin up with my fingers so she was looking in my eyes. "If you do go back, I'm sure it'll be fine. If the bad memories decide to come back, then I'll be there if you need a shoulder to cry on." I reassured before kissing her forehead.
"Thanks, baby. You promise you'll come with me when I go?"
"I promise. We should probably head out."
"I want everyone to keep a lookout while I go talk to the authorities about venturing outside the walls. We're not off duty."
"Man, I thought I was gonna get a break today." Jean grumbled.
"Well, you thought wrong." Levi looked back at me. "This is your chance, Storm. Are you gonna go or stay with the group?"
"Me and Eren are gonna split and go to the house." Stormer decided, reaching over and locking her fingers with mine before bringing Lightning to a halt.
"Is this it?" I asked, gesturing to the house next to us.
"It's a short walk from here, just around the corner." My girlfriend replied before walking away.
"Stormer, are you sure you want to do this?" I asked. "You know you don't have to."
"I know, and I want to do this. I can't just pretend my past never happened, and as painful as this is gonna be, I have to face this." She stopped in front of a house, reluctant to open the door. I reached out and grasped her hand for comfort. "Let's do this." Stormer slowly pushed the door open with a loud creak and walked inside. I felt her grip on my hand tighten. "It's like nothing changed.."
