The Outside Doesn't Count (Ongoing)

Chapter 11

Ever since the scene in the cafeteria. It seems as if everyone has been avoiding me. I don't have a problem with it though. Three weeks has passed and still no one. How peaceful it is without people bothering you. Unfortunately.. That peace was ruined.

"Hey feisty."

I looked up from my book and saw Kai.

"What are you doing here?", I said with a glare.

"Geez, relax. If eyes could kill? I only came here to read too."

"Can't you read somewhere else?"

"But this place seems peaceful and quiet."

"Well not any more..", I mumbled under my breath.

" I promise I won't bother you and I'll be quiet."

"Fine, but one peep and I'll chase you away.",I said Ina defeated tone.

"Yes!", he said excitedly.

I presumed reading my book. I was reading a mystery novel. I really like mystery novels, they make me feel happy for some reason.

As I was reading, I felt something poking me, like eyes were watching me. I looked up to find Kai staring at me. My eyes met his intriguing green eyes. We locked eye contact. I lifted an eyebrow. All of a sudden, this turned into a staring contest. I'm really good at this, so I'm sure I won't lose. He seemed really good too. It was a minute already, neither of us flinched. My eyes started to get watery, but I was strong. Then he noticed I was trying hard not to blink. He gave a sly smirk. Then he threw a kiss at me, which caused me to blink.

I blushed of embarrassment. I put my head down and clenched my teeth. I can't believe I lost to him. I could tell he was smiling at me.

Shortly after, the bell rang. We both gathered our stuff and head to class. On our way to class we didn't say anything to each other.
Them Kai broke the silence.

"Why are you so gloomy and lonely all the time, don't you have 'friends?"

I looked at him and answered, "Just because I'm alone, that doesn't make me lonely, and I don't need friends."

"Maybe if you had friends, you wouldn't be so gloomy and unhappy looking,", he said completely ignoring what I just said.

"Did you even hear what I just said?"

"I'm sure people would love to be your friend. You show good quality, like when you stood up for Adeline."

I just became quiet and ignored him.

"I would really like to be your friend!", he said with a close eyed smile.

I stopped and looked at him. Why did he want to be my friend?

"No, I'm good and you sure as hell don't want to be my friend."

He kept nagging and nagging me to be his friend. It started to get annoying so I just shouted fine. He went to class skipping. What an idiot.

The end of the day

Finally, school was over. It has officially been a month of school today. Its exhausting. I started to walk home with my skateboard in my hand. I didn't feel in a rush to get home, so I took my time.

Cole has been staying with me this whole time. He called dad and he was relieved that he was okay. Cole said he wanted to stay,my dad took a long and hard thought and agreed to let him stay, but only for five months, which included school time. Of course my mother was happy to hear her son was back home. She came back a week ago to see us, but had to leave due to urgent business matters.

I haven't spoken to Chess since the incident in my room. It kind of feels weird not talking to him. I've seen him around school, looking lazier than ever, constantly running away from girls. I actually kind of feel bad for him. I've also noticed him sleeping in class and scratch marks on his face. I passed this new ice cream parlor on my way home. It looks like they had just opened today. They were doing a 50% off on all purchases for their opening. I decided to buy one.

As I ate my double fudge brownie ice cream. I noticed Chess. He was walking a head of me. I guess he didn't notice me. Then all of a sudden, he made a left turn onto a street. Where was he going so late, it was soon 5 pm? Our homes were straight up a head.

All of a sudden, I found myself following him. He didn't seem in a rush, he was just calmly walking. He went to a bus stop. He got on a bus to Griffin village. Griffin village was a village 20 miles away from our town. Being my curious self, I secretly followed him into the bus. I put my Gray hoodie on covering my face and sat way at the back far away from him. What was he up to? The bus topped just outside of town, by a field of lavender, some houses and a convenience store. He got off and I followed behind him. He walked into the convenience store, I secretly followed behind him. He brought  milk and some bread.

All of a sudden a lot of horrible thoughts sent through my head. Was he holding someone hostage around here. It couldn't be? But he has changed a lot, and seems a lot more suspicious. He walked out of the store. J quickly followed him out, but I didn't see him. Where did he go?

Then I heard a voice next to me.

"Why are you following me Avy?"

I looked to my side and saw him leaned against the wall, with his head down and eyes closed. I was speechless. How did he know it was me? My hoodie was covering my face and my uniform. I didn't know what to say. What if he really was a kidnapper. Or maybe I read too much mystery novels?

"Ermm..."

Then all of a sudden, Chess grabbed my wrist and pulled me beside the convenience store.

He had his hand over my mouth and his other hand around my waist, causing me to can't move. No! He was going to kidnap me and out me with his other hostages. This is like a mystery novel. My heart started to beat fast, but it wasn't from being scared. I actually am not really scared, just surprised that I could be right.

I heard  voices of men enter the convenience store. When the door closed, he let go of me. I immediately turned around and went a few steps back. He put his hands on his knees and let go what seemed to be a sigh of relief.

I stood there unable to speak. I didn't know if I should stay and investigate or run.  I don't know why, but I stayed. I found my words and spoke.

"Umm, are you going to kill me or..."

He looked up confused.

"Why the hell would I do that?",he said in an irritated tone.

He peeked from beside the grocery store and looked like he was thinking really hard. He then turned around and faced me.

"Well, I guess since your here already might as well come with me."

"Go where exactly?"

"Follow me and you'll see.", he said with a smirk.

He clearly saw that I was unsure and cautious. Is he messing with me?
