Mak Wheeler: Chapter 1

1) A Great Summer

It was a pretty normal day (for the party). El, Will, and Jonathan were able to convince their mother to let them stay at the Wheeler's house for the summer after moving. Mike didn't think he had been more excited in his life to see the girl he loved. They had been there for a few weeks when the party decided to get together. Mike and El were enjoying each other's company when they were interrupted by their best friends.

"Get off the couch love birds, we have a long day ahead of us" stayed Dustin.

El reluctantly got off the couch, pulling Mike up with her. Her hair was just below her shoulders now. Mike knew that one day he was going to marry this girl. They were both going into sophomore year, now that El was allowed to go to actual school. They walked outside where everyone was waiting at the pile of bikes, which now included El's very own. Not that she didn't like sharing with Mike.

She unlocked their hands and made her way to her own bike. Before she could actually get on, she felt eyes on the back of her head. She turned around to see Mike, on his bike, just staring at her lovingly. She smiled at him returning the warmth. They were both so in love.

It's been months since El lost her powers. The Russians were still out there somewhere but, she didn't care. She was here. She was in the moment.

First, the group decided to go to the arcade. Lucas watch in awe as "Mad Max" conquered Dig Dug. Next to them, Dustin was teaching El how to play Pac-Man. Will and Mike laughed at the fact that Dustin taught her too well. Dustin was panicking as El beat all of the scores, including his. "Shit," Will said with a smirk "If we knew you could play that well, we would had you go up against Peter Smith last year in the tournament." El giggle at that comment.

The arcade was going to close in 10 minutes, but everyone knew the day wasn't over. Max had the idea to go to the pool. They were surprised because ever since Billy died, she couldn't even talk about it.

"Are you sure Max?" Lucas asked

"It's been months , it'll be fun" she said optimistically.

Everyone smiled and made their way to the pool. It was getting dark and the pool would be collapsing soon but, they still went. They were having an amazing time. When the pool closed, they were all thinking the same thing. They stayed hidden until everyone left. They continued to have a great time.

(Meanwhile)
[Hawkins 2010]

"Mak, you sure you want to do this?" 14 year old Miles asked his twin sister.

"Miles, I have to. It's the only way to stop this." Mackenzie said before climbing into the tub, fully clothed with blacked out goggles. "I'll be fine. Just do your shit and I'll be home soon."

Miles giggled and hugged his sister before he focused on pushing Mackenzie back in time. The bubbles grew bigger and she disappeared by the time the bubbles dispersed. Miles sat there praying that his sister come back soon.

[Hawkins 1986]

The party had been there for hours by the time they all got out of the pool. They left quickly realizing that it was almost 11:00. "Jesus!" Dustin exclaimed before ushering them all to leave. They left without looking back.

About 2 minutes after they left. The bubbles in the pool started to gather. The water bowling, the air turning into steam. When finally, a fully clothed girl emerged from the deep end of the pool.

Mackenzie slowly crawled out of the water. Inch by inch she made it to the gate where the pool opened. She walked down the street when she remembered where to go. She felt drained about to pass out at any moment. She went to the only place she knew possible. She slowly limped down Mirkwood. When she reached her destination.

She saw the five people she needed at this moment. She felt like a weight was on her back.  She finally knocked on the basement door. One of her uncles opened the door, only, he wasn't her uncle yet. Hell, she wasn't even born yet. Instead of greeting them like she would in the future, she fell unconscious into his arms.

Dustin would never expect Mackenzie Wheeler to collapse in his arms.
