Mak Wheeler: Chapter 1

8) Miles & Miles Away from Home

Steve picked them up and they drove to the Byers' house. They made sure Mak was asleep before they left. They expected Max or El to stop then but, they even wanted to join. Mike told them that Mak needed her mother and Aunt in this situation and they complied.

All they had told Jonathan was that they had to go beat up the boys who hurt his niece. He agreed, not knowing what they were talking about.

When they pulled up to the house. Jonathan was already sitting outside. He hopped into the car with the boys. "Somebody wanna tell me who the hell my niece is?" Jonathan yelled, annoyed.

"My daughter." Mike said, not looking at Jonathan.

"Your what?!"

"My daughter."

"What do you mean your daughter?" Mike stayed quiet for a minute. "Mike?" Jonathan asked in an alarmingly calm tone, like he was about to kill Mike. Mike looked at him , giving him a look to say what ever he was going to say.  "Did you get my sister pregnant?" Everyone stayed quiet, not knowing what to say. Of course, Jonathan took that as a yes. He immediately lunged over to Mike to beat him up.

"Byers!" Yelled Steve.

Mike frantically replied. "No, no, no!" Jonathan froze, still looking murderous. "Not yet." Oops. Wrong words to use in this moment. Jonathan tried to continue where he left off. Will finally stopped him.

"Talk Wheeler!" Jonathan said.

"Well let's see, Mackenzie is from the year 2010 and she's 14." Jonathan immediately took a breath realizing that this conversation could wait another ten years.

"Why does she need saving? Won't she have like super powers or something?"

"Jonathan, Mak came here from 2010 to find a way to save her and her twin brother Miles. They were kidnapped to the Lab and future me and El haven't seen them in 5 months." Mike choked at the last part. He's only known her for a few days and he already loves her. He can't imagine losing her after 14 years. Wait, Mak is 14 now, and she's been gone for 5 months. Did he miss two of his kids' birthdays? 'Shit' he thought.

Once he explained the whole "James and Troy situation" to Jonathan, he was completely on board.

(Hawkins Lab 2010)

Miles was passed out in his room at the Lab. When he woke up, he had no idea where anyone was. He was sitting alone with a guard next to his bed.

"Where's Brenner?" Miles asked through gritted teeth.

The guard chuckled, "Probably killing your sister right about now."  That was it. Miles lost it.

He grabbed the guard and freezes him with his mind, then knocking him out cold, also with his mind. "We'll see about that." He said before using one of his abilities to time jump.

The boys hopped out of the truck to somewhere they knew Jame and Troy would be. The cliff where Troy made Mike jump. He didn't like the thoughts. Not so much that he would've died butt he fact that if he had jumped, he wouldn't have a family or El. He shakes the thoughts away.

"Where are they?" Will asked

"They'll be here, I'm sure of it." Mike said, convincingly.

While they were waiting, they heard a rattle in the bushes. Lucas had his wrist rocket ready to go. Before a dark haired boy could even exit out of the bushes fully, a rock was in the air.

Luckily, his back was turned so it didn't hit him. "Ow!" They heard from an unfamiliar voice.

When they finally saw his face, Mike knew exactly who this was. Oddly though, it barely even dazed him.

"Jesus Miles!" Mike sighed, pulling him in for a hug. He pulled him out of the hug to look at him fully. "We could've poked your eye out, you've gotta be careful."

Miles rolled his eyes and smiled, before remembering what he was doing here. "Where's Kat?" He asked frantically.

"Kat?" Lucas asked, not even knowing who this was.

"Mackenzie."

"Oh! She's at home with Aunt Max and your Mom." Mike said.

"Wait?!" Steve of all people started to figure this out first, "You're Miles? As in Miles Wheeler?"

"The one and only." Miles said with a smirk.

"Wait! So why do you call her Kat?" Mike was obviously confused as to what he was talking about when he referred to her as "Kat".

Miles laughed. "She hates it that's why she didn't tell you about it. Mak's full name is Mackenzie Katrina Jane Wheeler." Made a face that showed he understood but, the others were a little slower with figure it out. "We have lots of nicknames for her, Mak, MK, Kat, Rina, and my personal favorite, Kitty!"

Steve immediately chimed in, "Oh hell yes! I'm totally making fun of her tonight!"

"Not tonight Steve, she's been through enough." Miles' head shot up.

"Why? What happened?" Miles was freaking out. This was his best friend. He had never gone through so much shit with someone than he had with Mak.

"She got taken last night and got beat up pretty bad. That's why we're here, to beat up the kids that did this." Dustin stated.

It was obvious that Mike and Miles were equally protective over Mak. "Mind if I join?" Mike gave Miles a smirk that told him to go for it.

Mike started to think,'"Are you sure it's a good idea?"

"Why? Are you afraid I'll get hurt?"

"No! I'm afraid I'll get hurt if your mother finds out I let you do this."

Everyone laughed. That was when Miles finally realized who was around him. He went straight for Jonathan. "Uncle Jon!" Miles yelled.

"Hey bud!" Jonathan replied.

Just before they could all catch up, Troy and James arrived. "Shit!" Miles yelled.

"What?" Will asked

"That's Brenner!" Miles looked back at Will who's face was confused.
