One month. It had only been one month since you walked away from the love of your life and you had barely talked since. The messages were short and to the point. When do you want me to bring your stuff over? You still have my phone charger. Shit, I found your hat in my closet. Want it?
You only saw him once. You were at work, your hair was up in a bun and you were positive you looked horrible but when you saw him walk outside the store through the giant windows, your whole body froze up. He must have known you were working right? After all, your car was in the parking lot. You watched from the front of the store as he walked closer and closer to the door, not glancing up from the ground until he was completely inside the building.
When he saw you, it was his turn to freeze. His hand dropped from his chin and his eyes darted from your face, down your whole body and then back to your face. His voice was hoarse when he said hello and yours was barely a whisper. He told you he just needed one thing and then he would be gone, but "god did you look beautiful," he said before taking off to the back of the store. You hid in the office until you saw him leave.
A few weeks later he asked you to come over because he had some more of your things. It was like neither of you could find everything. Little bits here and there of each other kept popping up and it would never. You agreed and when you pulled up to his house, he was sitting out on the front porch with a small box. When he saw you getting out, he stood up and left the box on the stoop as he walked towards you. "Hey," he said. Your response was a nod. "It's just a few of your CD's I found and some of your things that were in my car. I cleaned it out," he told you.
You couldn't help but chuckle. "You finally cleaned your car?" It was a miracle and Shawn knew that, causing him to laugh out loud and shake his head as he grabbed the box.
"You'd be surprised how much stuff I had in there that I never knew I lost," he said with that smile you loved more than anything plastered on his face. The reason you hadn't seen him since was that of moments like this - with him looking at you like you were his whole universe and that smile on his face, the light in his eyes. It would make you wonder what the fuck even happened in the first place.
"Well thank you, for the stuff." You told him, taking the box from his hands. Your fingers graze each other gently and your breathing caught. Shawn sucked his bottom lip in through his teeth and pulled away, mumbling sorry over and over again. "Don't be sorry?" You told him but it was more of a question of why he was sorry.
"You felt that too?" He asked. You just looked up at him, your eyelids were heavy from crying on your way here and you were thankful he hadn't noticed. "That feeling in the pit of your stomach when you touch someone you love? When you want to kiss them but you can't," Shawn whispered, getting closer to you. His cologne filled your nose and you wanted more than anything to put your hands on his biceps that he purposely put out on display for you.
His head dipped down to your level, his mouth just inches from your face. "Shawn," you whispered. Who were you to turn him away? You wanted nothing more than to kiss him. He stopped moving closer, just hovering his face next to yours as his hands found your hips. He caressed them slowly, moving his thumbs up and down under your shirt.
"I miss you," he whispered in your ear. God, you missed him too. You bit your lip, contemplating what to do. Your head told you to stop but your heart told you to go. Green, red. Green, red. The lights seemed to be flashing in your mind but you dropped the box, kicking it to the side. You wrapped your arms around his neck, your fingers finding their familiar place in his hair and his lips slammed against yours. He moaned slightly at the contact and you pressed your body against his. The sense of longing, want and lust filling your veins. Shawn's hands gripped your shirt tight and your hands moved from his hair to his neck and then to his cheek.
Shawn was the first to pull away, his brown eyes were dark as he looked down at you. He was panting softly, his hands grazing your sides. "What?" You asked as he just looked at you. He looked at you as if you were the moon, so full of wonder and mystery. Like he could stare at you all night long and never get sick of you.
"I love you," he mumbled. You rested your forehead against his and closed your eyes. Being in Shawn's arms never felt wrong. He never felt wrong. You loved him more than anything and he knew that. He also knew that you had been too dependent on him lately, never doing anything for yourself. Codependency was always your biggest fear and after three years, it had finally happened. The decision was mutual, however seeing him now you questioned why.
"I love you," you said back. He kissed the tip of your nose and then your cheek and down your neck. You moved your head to the side to grant him access and he took it, kissing the spot that he knew made you crazy but only for a second.
"If we're not back together, I don't wanna." He told you. You nodded in understanding and pulled away from his grip. "Where are you going?" He asked you, holding his hand out for yours, wanting you back with him.
"I should go, thanks for my stuff." You grabbed the box, putting all the things that had fallen out back in. When you stood up, you looked at him. "I love you, I'll call you." You told him before getting back in your car and leaving. You watched in the rearview mirror as he was made smaller and smaller by the distance.
