She waited in the line of people, her leg bouncing up and down with nerves. She thought the flight would be the harder part, this, seeing Shawn, was the easy part. But she was wrong. The flight went way smoother and faster than she anticipated and she was calm, excited even until the moment she saw Andrew in the car to pick her up.

Shawn's burnt orange corduroy jacket was the same color as the building he was standing outside of and she saw the top of his head showing over the crowd of girls that were waiting to meet him. She stayed in the back, waiting patiently for her turn. She imagined all the reactions he would have in her head, anticipating each of them. She even prepared for the worst, disappointment although she knew that wouldn't happen.

She could barely hear her own thoughts over the chaos that was ensuing over Shawn Mendes. Shawn Mendes was in Italy and now so was she, standing outside the beautifully crafted building that had more class and beauty than half of North America and now it was even more beautiful with him standing out in front of it.

She didn't do surprises. She didn't like planning them and she definitely didn't like receiving them but she was bored at home, laying in her own bed and wishing that Shawn was home too. She spent too many hours looking at tour photos and videos, smiling to herself thinking: there's my boy.

Her boy. That's what she liked to tell herself. It helped her seep better, thinking of him as hers but she knew just as well as everyone else that he didn't belong to her, really. Not romantically, anyway. For all she knew, she was hooking up the entire time he's been gone but thinking of him as hers was better than thinking of him with another girl.

He was too far away and she was used the traveling, the too many days and weeks away from her but touring was different. He was too busy and she felt sad one too many times after he had to abruptly go during one of their facetime calls again so she called Andrew and made him plan a surprise visit for him.

It was hard enough to keep her mouth shut for the last week while she waited for the time to come and now it was even harder the keep herself from pushing past all these fans and crashing her body into his but she waited.

The line dwindled down. He was moving through the crowd quickly, smiling at everyone and taking as many pictures as he could and she was too good to his fans. He was barely paying any attention to what was going on around him except for who was next and take the photo and now who's next he didn't notice Jake wink at her and he didn't notice her now only a few feet away from him.

His back was to her as he said goodbye to the pretty blonde that he just took a photo with and there were slight tears in her eyes and she was gripping her phone with her bad manicured hands like her life depended on it. He smiled at her and touched her elbow right before he turned around and almost crashed into her.

"I'm sorry," he mumbled, chuckling to himself a little bit as he tried to steady her with his hands but the closeness of his face to hers was shaking her more than the crash itself.

She didn't answer and waited for him to notice but it seemed like his brain was traveling a million miles an hour and when he looked into her eyes, it was like he didn't recognize her. His eyes were blank, like a piece of paper that belonged to a high school student that had fallen asleep in class and missed the entire lesson and then you could see the empty lines filling with the words that told your story. "Y/N," he breathed.

"Hey," she said, a smile on her face. He let out a sigh of relief, his shoulder relaxed and she didn't know if he even knew they were that tense in the first place. He wrapped his arms around her neck, pulling her into his chest and it was her turn to breathe a sigh of relief. Relieved that she was there with him again.
