Chapter 7

We spent the rest of the day cultivating the soil and started planting the easy ones to be planted.

I put the flowers that I took from the flowershop in a vase. Hinati ko iyon para ang isang vase ay madala ko sa kwarto habang ang isa ay sa sala. Selena liked the flowers.

Phoenix and I talked only when it is needed. I'm not avoiding him but I avoided him when I feel like he wants to open up to me.

I just don't feel like I need to know about it. So what if he has a wife? I wonder where she is now.

For our dinner, Phoenix prepared our food and we talked about what we still need as we ate. We will find a hardware store tomorrow and see if we will find some barbwires there to put on top of the walls.

After we had our dinner, Phoenix called Chase and brought him outside the walls. They have dispatched two changers lurking around. Then I saw Phoenix training Chase with the basics like sit and roll.

Nanonood lang ako sa kanila mula sa may pintuan. Chase seems to know how to do it already. So Phoenix taught him how to stop with hand gestures. When Phoenix fisted his hand, it means stop. When Phoenix points out his two fingers, it means go.

Pero nahirapan si Chase doon. Well, he can do the stop but not the go sign. But I'm sure he'll learn.

Night came and we stayed inside. Nang umakyat ako sa kwarto ay narinig kong umiiyak si Selena sa kanyang kwarto. I heard her cried before pero hindi ko iyon pinagtuunan ng pansin. Hindi lang ako ang umiiyak gabi gabi sa bahay na ito.

At dahil hindi pa ako makatulog ay naupo muna ako dito sa sofa sa labas ng kwarto. There are shelves with dvd tapes, there's a flat screen tv and a vase. May mga picture frames rin.

Kasama ko ngayon si Chase.

Hindi umulan ngayong gabi but it's okay since we've gathered lots of water from the rain last night.

As usual, I woke up early in the morning. I did my daily routine bago ako bumaba. Nakita kong nakaupo si Phoenix sa single sofa, kakaligo lang rin siguro nito.

I greeted him good morning and he greeted me back.

"Are we gonna take Chase with us today?" I asked him.

"Yes. He has a lot to learn outside. A smart dog." I agreed kahit delikado iyon dahil baka kung saan saan magpunta si Chase.

Pero mas mabuti na kung kasama namin sya para masanay sya sa paligid nya.

Gaya ng ginawa ni Selena noong unang araw naming magpunta sa bayan, tumigil muna sya sa isang lugar para magsanay ako. But this time, hindi sa lugar kung saan una nya akong hinayaang magsanay. Hindi rin sa lugar na pinuntahan namin ni Phoenix. Kundi sa malapit sa mga kabahayan.

Selena parked the car several meters away from here.

Iniwan namin si Chase kasama sya.

I gulped and glanced at Phoenix. I'm nervous. What if there are dozens of changers here. Nasa labing dalawang bahay ang nakikita ko. Malalaki ang lima.

I saw over a dozen of changers on the street. There are dogs barking at them. Sinusubukan ng mga itong hulihin ang mga aso pero hindi nila ito mahuli dahil sa mabagal na silang maglakad. The sun is about to rise high up.

I started firing.

Umalingawngaw ang putok ng baril sa paligid. Dahilan para makuha ko ang kanilang atensyon. They snarled, wriggled their heads and hobbled towards us. Nakataas ang baril ni Phoenix, aiming for changers that could possibly reach our spot before I could shoot them.
