A/N: For purposes of this fic, they had their first date in a café. And I'm gonna do away with "and we walk down the block to my car", okay? Okay.

Taylor's POV

Straightening my dress for what seems like the millionth time, I look in the mirror and take a deep breath. I am preparing to go to the café with Joe for a da- No. This is not a date. He clearly doesn't like you in the same way. To him, this is just two friends meeting up and nothing more. Stop leading yourself to thinking that.

Needing to distract myself, I glanced at the clock. 9.45, I should probably get going now. My stupid self automatically reached for a pair of heels. He never likes it when I wore heel- Taylor, don't.

Stepping out the door, I turn the lock. I put on my earpieces and played some James Taylor because I need some way to stop myself from overthinking and why can't I? However, when Fire And Rain came on, those thoughts came right back. He always said he didn't get this song and I never understood his thinking. How can anyone not get a song with such beautiful lyrics that portrayed such great heartbreak? So much for a distraction.

Fortunately, on my way to the café, there wasn't any paparazzi following me, taking pictures of me or shouting rude comments at me. When I reach the café, I saw that there weren't many cars parked in thr parking lot. I guess he's late. Guys being late to dates isn't something new, in my past relationships, in almost all the dates I've gone to, the guy ends up coming late and has some cliché excuse like "Sorry babe, I was stuck in traffic". But that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt whenever that happens. Wait, you're doing it again. This. Is. Not. A. Date.

I walk into the café and look around for an empty seat. To my surprise, to my left, I am met with the sight of Joe standing up and waving his arm in an attempt to catch my attention. He's early? Quickly snapping back into reality, I walk over to Joe.

"Hey," I greet when I reach him.

"Hi Tay," he replies. I reach my arms out to pull a chair out but instead, he pulls it out before I do and helps me in. Is this a normal thing guys do at dates? My exes never did that for me in any of our dates. That's so nice. Seriously, practice some self-control, Taylor.

"You okay? You were spacing out a little bit," Joe asks, concerned, bringing me back into the present.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Do you wanna order now?" I desperately change the subject to avoid being interrogated.

Luckily, he doesn't seem to notice the sudden change in subject. After the waiter takes our orders, Joe makes small talk with me, "So have you been writing anything?"

"I've written a few lyrics here and there but I can't seem to get much inspiration," I answer, "What about you? Have you been shooting for any movies recently?"

Eventually, small talk turns into us sharing interesting stories from our abnormal lives (well, abnormal for me and semi-normal for Joe) and facts about us.

"Why are you being shy, Tay? I don't bite, you know?" Joe chuckles. I blush. Is it really that obvious? Pull yourself together, you're embarrassing yourself.

After a few moments of self-hatred on my end, we continue talking.  Somehow, we get onto the topic of our favourite artists.

"I really love James Taylor," Joe says.

"Wait, seriously? Me too! I have a copy of every single one of his albums!" I squeal, excited to have finally found someone who shares a similar music taste with me. Really, Taylor? You're gonna scare him off. Get your act together.
