Donkey

Donkey traverses the woods, just as he had done when he took this path every day. Since Shrek broke up with him, he had been awfully lonesome. Shrek had found Gordon not long after he broke up with Donkey, but Donkey never found anyone else. Sometimes he walked the path to Shrek's house, stopping and turning back before Shrek could catch sight of him.

But today, Donkey would not be turning back. He was going to win Shrek back.

He walks up into Shrek's porch. Shrek has recently built a new house, and Donkey had never seen it this close, much less been inside.

Donkey looks at his brand new Rolex watch. 8:03. Shrek might still be asleep, so Donkey decides to knock extra loud to be sure Shrek would answer.

Bam bam bam.

Donkey took a step back and waits patiently. He hears groaning and sighing inside. He hopes Gordon isn't in there with Shrek.

Shrek opens the door. "Donkeh? What do yeh want? It's been years since we broke up. Haven't you moved on?"

Donkey clears his throat and looks deep into Shrek's eyes. "Shred, if I'm being honest, I don't know if I moved on, or if I can move on. I've been feeling so lonely lately and I need...someone."

Shrek stares down Donkey, making him feel intimidated and small.

"But you know I'm dating Gordon now. I've moved on, Donkeh, and you should, too."

Shrek begins to close the door and Donkey panics. "Shrek, please. Just let me in, Gordon doesn't have to know," he pleads.

Shred thinks for a second. "I suppose he doesn't but this better not be another one of

yer tricks, Donkeh."

"It's not, I swear."

Shrek lets out a sigh and opens the door for Donkey. Donkey smiles and leans over to give Sheen a kiss before going inside. He was originally going for a kiss on the lips, but changed his mind and went for the cheek.

Donkey steps inside, and marvels at the beauties of Shrek's home. Shrek's colorful furniture and soft brown walls created an aesthetically pleasing look.

"I like the new place. I don't think I've ever been in here before," Donkey comments.

"You haven't. We broke up years ago, Donkeh."

Shrek's blunt comment stung Donkey. He glances over at Shrek.

Shrek notices the glance, and softens his gaze a bit. "Well, since yer here, my rooms that way," Shrek points to his room. Smiling, Donkey grabs Shrek's hand and leads him to the bedroom. He closed the door, and started to kiss Shrek. It's been so long since they were in the same room together, much less kissing.

Donkey straddles Shrek, wondering how far this could go. How far this would go. But then Shrek begins to push Donkey, trying to remove him from his lap. Donkey panics, and kisses harder, refusing to be denied love.

"That'll do, Donkeh. That'll do," Shrek tries to tell Donkey.

Reeeeeeee.

Shrek's door squeaks, but Donkey doesn't care. He continues kissing Shrek, even when Shrek's eyes widen, staring at something beyond Donkey. Suddenly Shrek gives Donkey a hard shove, effectively tossing him to the floor with a loud thud.

Donkey looks towards the door, and sees Gordon standing there, hurt and crying. But Donkey doesn't care. He's sitting on the floor, hurt and crying. He doesn't realize he's crying until he sees drops forming on Shrek's floor. Seeing them makes him cry harder. Shrek and Gordon are talking, although not to him, and Donkey has no intention of listening. Gordon runs off, dropping something as he leaves. Out of the corner of his eye, Donkey sees Shrek walk over and pick it up. He stands in the doorway, looking down at his palms, and doesn't move. It doesn't take much for Donkey to figure out what that something was. A ring. He knows it. Donkey wipes his tears and watches Shrek stand solemnly in the doorway. And it was in that moment that Donkey knew, he would never be getting Shrek back.

"He was my everything," he thought to himself as he sat on the floor, alone and forgotten.
