as he recuperates, the boy sobs into the dirt. his legs were on fire. not the kind of fire that burned holes through clothes, but a fire that burned through to souls.

tyler didn't know, tyler wasn't there to protect him.

his fluffy hair has earth seeped into it, and his chest was rising as fast as the sky was fading. he blacks out.

maybe the flowers tyler gives to josh would've seen a much better end, if he hadn't seen the boy passed out in the same spot he left him last night.

the brunette swoops him up, and he carries him bridal style to his own bed. he's freezing, which is ironic because if you asked him, he'd say a fire went straight through his heart.

he felt hot, but his body was screaming hypothermia.

tyler just cuddles him until he wakes up, which is 3 whole hours later.

he strokes josh's hair, "hi handsome," tyler whispers to him, broken.

it's the five words that the boy says next that crumbles them both like a seven day old christmas cookie.

"i cant dance anymore, ty."

they both are silenced, and all that can be heard is josh's cries. the dancer doesn't even know that tyler is crying too.

he just feels the brunette's hands through his grass-filled hair, and an arm stroking up and down his back.

"who did it to you?" tyler feels rage soak through his skin, like a drop of honey, slowly making it's way through a sponge.

"these boys, um, one of them-" he stops, and josh whimpers as he says, "was your friend, brendon." the honey soaks all the way through the sponge, tyler shuffles himself.

"i'm gonna kill him-" he gets up from snuggling the now melancholic boy to flee josh's room. said boy grabs his arm to stop him, "no- no. i need you, right now. please don't leave again."

"okay," he huffs, calming down.

"i miss you," josh says, calm and sad.

"i miss you more. all this time i've left you at night, just to keep a low radar. but heck it, i don't care anymore. so what, i like a very special feminine boy? yes the bad boy, mister tyler joseph would kill- and i mean murder- someone for this boy. this boy that dances. i don't like dancers, josh. i don't even like flowers- or at least, i didn't- i didn't, until you came along my life. you've taught me a lot, joshie. i'm better because of you. and i- i think- i think- i'm in love with you," tyler rants his entire soul out, only to realize through his rambling the boy he declared his love for, has fallen asleep again.

"i would do anything for you, sleepy boy. you will dance again."

before josh awakes again tyler gets back up, and heads to a familiar house. to see a familiar friend.

the porch light is on, and so is tyler's ego. he will kick brendon's ass.

"brendon!!!" he knocks as hard as his fists can pound.

"what's up, buddy?" brendon says coolly, putting a hand through his hair.

"what's up?" he mocks. tyler's face is almost hilarious at this point, but his tone is not.

"i haven't seen you so much recently, i miss you, friend." it almost makes tyler sick. he feels guilty. he knows he's a bad friend. but if brendon were a good friend he would understand.

"i don't think i can ever forgive you, brendon."

said boy's face is twisted in confusion, before he tries to hide a wicked smile.

a smile, that used to bring him happiness, as they would gallivant and cause mischief.

tyler realizes now, that he never needed brendon, he just wanted him. he wasn't always the person woth all the friends, but brendon was always there. he meant something to tyler. meant.

he doesn't anymore.

"i don't need you anymore," tyler says, and he doesn't chose to be the bigger man, like he knew he should be.

he should just walk away, and hurt him with those five words. oh, five words can hurt so so much.

but, no.

tyler swings around and punches his old friend in the face, which has him stumble into his own house. he finally steps outside, and with that they fought for a long time.

with several kicks, punches, spitting even, and with one final kick to the groin, brendon was down.

until he hops up and tackles the other.

"i always thought you cared about me, bren," tyler says through his restraints.

brendon's arms holding down his own felt so familiar. they'd play fight all the time, but not like this.

"i do, tyler, i always have. that's why i did it."

tyler chokes, he cries, and is even is bleeding quite profusely.

"if you did, you wouldn't hurt who i love." that's when brendon holds back. both of them crying now, a river of guilt and melancholy.

"you love him?"

tyler pushes him off, "i thought i made it quite clear. goodbye brendon, thanks for everything up until this point."

he walks away, so broken from both the pain that is coursing through his body, but through his heart.

▪▪▪

with the last day of school, the last finals of the year, tyler smiles as he runs out the front door.

now he never has to leave his boy.

he never asked josh questions, like why he dances, how he learned to dance like that, where he came from, how old he is, where his family are, or why he doesn't go to school.

he nurses the boy, with guided tips from his mother, and slowly josh begins to stumble to walk again.

but he still can't dance.

"yet," tyler says, being for once the optimistic one.

"yet."
