// Author's Note //

I just wanted to quickly say thank you to all of those who have been reading and voting for this story. It honestly means the world to me and I want you all to know that I appreciate the support so so much. I apologise for not updating for two weeks but I have commitments such as school that I need to, of course, put first plus recently, I've been suffering from writer's block but I think I have a solution now.

Also, I know that sometimes there can be silent readers who are perhaps afraid to comment because they're stuck on what to say but feel free to give me some feedback as I don't want anyone to feel that they can't engage with me.

I'll try my best to reply if you message me or tweet me (@NarcoticLuke_).

I love you all. Have a good day/night and also if you enjoy this chapter, tweet me or comment your thoughts or what you think will happen next.

- Eilidh :)

The dry chuckle from the other line faded. This person's every word repeating, one after another in my head like a never-ending record.

My body went numb, so taken over that I hadn't noticed I dropped Connor's phone until it hit the ground, the loud thump causing me to jump, startled.

"Caitlin? Is everything alright?" Allison asks, knocking the door, worry straining through her voice.

What had I got myself in to?

I was incapable of opening my mouth to respond to Allison. My jaw felt clasped shut, locked with a key that had been thrown away, never to be found again.

No words could describe how I was feeling anyway. My body was overtaken with the feeling of numbness, my legs badly shaking.

Allison's heavy footsteps echoed across the room as she came closer.

The words of the call were ringing through my head to the sound of her uneven shuffling. I felt like the room was closing in on me, enclosing around me. My breathing shaky, my throat dry, my fingertips trembling as the echoes continue to ring through my head.

That was the last thing I heard before it all went black.

*****

My eyes flutter open gradually and Allison's worried face comes into view, slightly blurred.

A damp flannel is being held across my forehead as Allison dabs at my face with another.

"A-Allison," I whisper, my voice cracking.

"Oh thank God!" she breathes in relief. She probably thought I'd died on the spot.

I look around the room, realising that I was lying on my bed. I didn't say anything but Allison cleared her throat. "So, how are you feeling?"

"Why do you ask?"

She looks at me warily. "You fainted last night, don't you remember?"

"I did?" I ask, only now remembering the events of last night. l turn around, noticing the time on the alarm clock on my bedside table. 2.33 AM.

"Yeah, I came to check on you before I headed off to bed. You were on the phone -" She pauses, handing me Connor's phone. "I thought you returned that to his mother."

"Oh, I forgot to. I'll do that soon," I lie. There is no way I'm giving it back now, I need to know who it was that called.

"That mayo chicken meal must have took a bad turn on you," she laughs, shutting my room door before leaving. She has no idea.
