Do you ever get that feeling, that you have been holding in something for a very long time? And that one day you are just going to explode and finally give everyone a piece of your mind? Yes. No. Well for Gabriella she gets that feeling every day.
Or at least she did, until she became mute.
Chapter One: The First Day (edited)
The blinds were pulled open and the blankets were pulled off. Ugh! "Come on Gabriella its time to get up. You will be late for your first day back to school." My little sister Ali, said.
I silently groaned and tried pulling the covers back over my head to shield the light that was shining in my eyes. She yanked them off me once again and pulled them to a corner of my room. "Come on. You're my ride to school and I don't want to be late." She said urgently.
I slid out of bed and she smiled in satisfaction. She skipped her way out of my door and shut it behind her. I silently groaned once more then walked to my bathroom. I removed my clothes from the night before and got into the shower.
Once the warm water hit my body it felt like all my nerves disappeared. As I was taking my shower, I couldn't help but let my thoughts overtake my mind. It is my first day back since I have become mute. But I have been mute for the last three years. So, this is also my first day going to a public high school.
During those three years my mother got a teacher to come to the house every day and teach me what I needed to know. As well as help me learn ASL so I can communicate like that.
Once I was done showering, I grabbed my soft white with small colorful triangle towel and wrapped it around my body. I walked into my bedroom and into my closet. I grabbed a pair of dark washed jeans and a sunflower yellow t-shirt. As well as my undergarments and some all-white vans.
After drying my hair, I put on my clothes and walked back into my bathroom and put my hair into a half up half down braid. Once back into my room I grabbed my phone and checked the time. 7:45
I walked downstairs school starts in thirty minutes and it takes ten minutes to get there. Which only reason I know that is because I drove Ali there every day before going to the park for a run.
"Good Morning sweetie." My mom said as I was walking to the kitchen.
Good morning mum. She placed a plate of pancakes in front of me and I smiled. Thank You.
"Are you excited for school?" My sister Ali asked. She doesn't know much sign language, but I appreciate her effort in trying to learn it.
I guess. I am excited to see Alexa, and Diya. The good thing is that she understands the signs just can't do it herself. I have tried teaching her, but she doesn't have much patience.
We were all quiet while finishing up breakfast. Once I was finished, I placed my plates and silver wear in the dishwasher. Then walked up stairs to brush my teeth and grab my bag.
Once downstairs Ali asked me if I was ready to go. I nodded my head. Ali walked outside and I went to give mum a hug. "Bye Gabriella. Have a good day at school ok." She whispered into my ear before letting me go.
I will, love you mum. On my way-out Charlie was walking up to the door.
Hey Gabriella. He signed.
Hi, Charlie. Mom is in the kitchen. I signed back and he nodded. Charlie is deaf but, he is also my mums boyfriend. Once he closed the door I walked to my car.
The car ride was silent until Ali's favorite song came on "Jesus Take the Wheel" By: Carrie Underwood. She started to sing the lyrics. Ali was a good singer her voice was so beautiful. But she doesn't think so and gets embarrassed when others are around when she is singing. Except for me of course.
