"What do you even mean?" I questioned my Mother as I took a bite out of my third mozzarella stick, the best thing you can get from McDonalds, might I add.
"I just think that the cheeseburgers could use more than one gerkin" I looked down at the gerkin on her tray, that she had been saving for after she'd finished her burger.
I averted my eyes from the gerkin to my Mom's concentrated face.
"Don't you think?" She looked at me expectantly, taking the gerkin from her tray and popping it in her mouth.
"Well..." I trail off, losing my concentration on the conversation we were having, as something caught my attention from across the food court.
A girl around my age, with bleach blonde hair and way too much fake tan. Allow me to put it in perspective, she looked like an orange.
I couldn't help but notice that she was making out with a boy, a few inches taller than her, rather passionately. Did they really have to do that in the food court?
I soon realised how familiar they both looked. The boy had messy brown hair- Wait.
I leaned forward in my seat to get a better look at the boy but it was pretty difficult, seeing as his face was being eaten by the girl on his lap. Lovely.
Wait. Oh shit, that's Cain. And Jen I'm guessing.
I tore my eyes away from the sickening scene, suddenly feeling nauseous.
"Hazel?" I snapped out of my trance and faced my mother, who had been trying to get my attention for god knows how long. "Are you even listening to me?".
"Yeah, what? What did you say Mom?" I said, noticing that she'd taken our trash over to the bin whilst I was trying to identify the couple that were showing too much P.D.A.
"It doesn't matter" She rolled her eyes at me, grabbing her bag from the seat beside her.
"Let's go to Victoria's Secret" My mother suggested. "There's this perfume I've been wanting to buy".
I didn't listen to the rest of my mother's rant as I was too busy figuring out how I was going to make it past Cain's table without him spotting me.
"Well, Hazel?" I heard my mother say questioningly. Well, what?
"Huh?" I turned my head back towards her, noticing that she had stood up from her seat and was ready to leave.
"Is there anything you're looking for?" I shook my head in response as I grabbed my back pack from under the table and rose to my feet.
I could see Jen twirling her hair between her fingers and batting her eyelashes. Oh, she does not look attractive when doing that...
After giving Cain a kiss, I saw her skip away towards the bathroom.
We continued walking.
"You definitely need to go to sleep earlier, you're day-dreaming constantly and I-" My Mom paused mid-sentence, causing me to avert my eyes from the game I was playing on my phone and look at her confusedly.
"Isn't that Cain?" Her face lit up and a smile began to spread across her face. Oh shit. I knew I was supposed to tell her something.
My eyes widened as my Mom began walking over to Cain, who was now on his phone and sat by himself.
"Mom, no! I think we should- Oh God" I mentally facepalmed as my totally oblivious Mother began dragging me over to the table Cain was sat at.
I hadn't told her about our break-up yet, which you've probably guessed by now if you aren't as naive as my mother.
I had a perfectly good reason for my actions, however. She scares me.
I know that Cain isn't my favourite person at the moment but I'd never wish death upon anybody...
"Cain!" Oh, for fuck's sake...
Looking up from his phone, a look of confusion took over his face.
I looked down at the floor, suddenly finding the flannel around my waist the most interesting thing in the world.
"Uh, hey Mrs Morrisey" Cain widened his eyes as my incredibly embarrassing mother engulfed him in a hug. Kill me now...
"How have you been? You should come over for dinner soon! That sweater looks adorable on you" I zoned out as my mother continued to rant at Cain.
That moment would've been a perfect time for the ground to open up and swallow me, but unfortunately for me, my wishes never get granted.
I shifted my gaze away from the floor only to see Cain smirking at me in amusement. The little shi-
"She's adorable! Right?" My mother had taken out her phone and was now scrolling through photos on her phone. My face was in all of them...
I looked over my Mom's shoulder to see a photo of me eating. Did she literally just take that!?
I was dragged away from my thoughts- like literally dragged -by Cain who had decided to take advantage of the situation and put his arm around my shoulders. Oh hell no.
"That's my girl" I struggled to hide my distaste as I cringed at his choice of words.
This whole situation was my idea of hell. This was my personal hell.
I forced a smile, attempting to calm my anger. I could feel my blood boiling as his hand inched closer to the small of my back. If his hand goes any lower I'm going to cut off his fingers and throw them in someone's drink...
"Aren't you two the cutest thing!" Let me get a picture" My Mom pulled up the camera app on her phone and began taking her usual amount of 30 pictures.
It was obvious that Cain was enjoying every moment.
Before I knew what was happening, I felt his fingers against my chin, pulling my face towards his. Oh, honey.
By this point, I no longer cared about what my Mother thought about me as I shoved him away from me with all my strength, causing him to stumble into the chair he was previously sat in.
I heard my Mother gasp from behind me. If only she knew...
"What's wrong babe" Cain asked, amusement evident in his voice. Babe, ugh.
"Oh, fuck you!" With that, my hand flew across his face, leaving an angry, red mark on the side of his cheek.
"Hazel!" My mother grabbed my arm, pulling me away from the jackass that was now holding a hand to his cheek. Man, he looked dumb.
I shook my head at Cain's stunned face as my Mom dragged me away from the food court.
I looked around at the people who had diverted their attention to over to the scene I had just caused.
"Eat your food and mind your business!" I yelled at the crowd as I rounded the corner and I could no longer see Cain's table.
"Baby are you okay!?" Now she decides to turn up.
"Now you've both got injuries, goals!" I yelled as my Mother dragged me away from the enterance.
