"Come on, Lunala!" Moon stood tall on her tiptoes to try to hold the bowl of berries up to the giant bat, which had perched itself on the rafters of her tall ceiling.

"She's quite the stubborn thing, isn't she?"

"Yeah," the girl couldn't help but pout. Moon's sweet, bronzed mother sat a plate of cookies gently in front of her best friend Hau, who sat on the couch with his sandal-clad feet on the coffee table.

"Wow, thanks!"

"Anytime," she laughed, looking up at the bat that had shut its eyes.  With the twitch of its large ear, the bat opened one eye and chirped sweetly, looking down at Moon.

"That's it, girl, come on."  Lunala's eyes were big and sparkly as it spotted the cookies, and it hung its head down to the duskball that Moon held open. She rattled it a bit to entice the creature, but then the telephone began to ring. Lunala screeched and perched right back upright, but Moon's mother came back from answering the phone as quickly as she had left.

"Moon, Hau—Lillie needs to meet you at the marina. She sounded worried."

"Lillie's in trouble," Hau gasped, jumping to his feet. Lunala squeaked at the news and immediately flew down into the ball, and Moon locked it shut before throwing the duskball down into her purse.

"She sure sounded like it," Moon's mom softly murmured in a worried tone. "Take the medkit, Moon, I don't know if she's hurt—"

"Awesome!" Hau jumped up and down for a second before grabbing Moon's hand, dragging her to the door. "We're like real-life superheroes now! Everyone's going to want to call on us to save the city!"

"Why would they ever want call on us," Moon sighed, letting him take her along. He stopped them in front of her house and jumped up onto her fence, placing his hands on his hips.

"Because we're Cool Guy and Bat Girl!"

"Bat Girl?"

"Lunala's a bat, right?"

"Sort of, I suppose."

"We're invincible," Hau screamed, beating his chest while bellowing out a howl to the sky.

"I wouldn't go that far, cousin," a cheerful man laughed, and Moon wheeled around.

"Hey, uncle," Hau laughed, hopping down from the post.

"Have you guys seen Lillie?"

"That's where we're headed," Moon immediately replied with a hint of stern fear. "Is she okay?"

"I don't know, to be honest. This morning Lillie was eating cereal, and when I told her good morning, she turned whiter than Snowy, made some scared little noise, then she just ran. Her little vulpix followed her, so at least I know she's safe. I dunno where she went, though."

"Oh, well, she called us and said she was—"

"On her period!" Hau and Kukui both looked a bit shocked at what Moon had blurted out, and Moon pulled a wrapped up cylinder out of her purse. "Yeah, it's her first one, so she didn't want to embarrass you, I guess. Don't worry; I'll take care of her!"

"Well, uh, thanks, cousin," he hesitantly replied with a smile. "I'll pick her up some, um...of those when I go to the store later."

"I'm sure she'd appreciate it," Moon chimed, and she pushed Hau briskly past Kukui. "We'll see you around!"

"Yeah, see you! I guess..."

"Dude, what was that all about," Hau snapped quietly, and the two speed-walked down the road to Hau'oli City.
