They arrived at the main office and creaked open the old wooden door. An old dial phone sat at a single table. An ominous voice spoke out from the darkness. "Player number 228340451, who do you wish to make your call to?"
"My little brother," Kalera sputtered shakily.
"As you wish."
The announcements came on. "Player number 239213804, go to the phone booth on your floor to receive your phone call. It is located in room 115. Anyone else go to the phone booth, you will be killed. After this phone booth is used, it will be destroyed."
Kalera carefully picked up the phone with her nimble hand and held it to her ear. "H-Hello? Jamie?" she stammered.
An innocent little boy's voice sounded on the other side. "Who's this? Kalera?"
"Jamie! Oh my gosh! Yes, it's me! Where are you?!"
"On..." There was a pause. "The first floor!"
"Ok! Stay right where you are in front of the phone booth, I'll be right there, ok?"
"But I can't..."
"Why not?"
"Ummmmmmm... I-I'm scared..."
"It's ok, I'll be there in a second. It's all going to be fine. J-just hold on. Could you do that for me?"
"Uh... ok."
Kalera slammed down the rusty phone and ran out immediately.
"Kalera! Wait for us!" Caroline shouted. "My stubby legs can't keep up with you!"
They sprinted after her.
"Geez, where are we going now?" Alessi huffed.
"This is like the magic school bus all over again," Juliane mumbled as Alena began hollering the magic school bus theme song.
"IT'S THE MAGIC SCHOOL BUS-"
"Shut the hell up, come on! Why are you all so weak?!" Alessi scolded. Alessi easily caught up, then came Juliane, Alena, and finally Caroline, with her little potato legs. They found Kalera hugging her little brother's small 6 year old body, tears streaming down her face, and her brother's squishy little face stuffed into her hoodie.
The girls almost started crying themselves except Alessi. Kalera separated from their hug, her face all red. She had gone full tomato. She placed her hands onto his frail shoulders.
"Are you okay?"
"No, no, I'm fine."
"Come on. Let's take you somewhere safe."
She took his tiny hand and began to walk down the hallway. The girls followed close behind, breathing heavily.
"ON THE MAGIC-" Alena began.
Alessi gave her a death stare.
Alena giggled and continued to sing. Juliane covered her ears and Caroline laughed hysterically.
Alessi groaned and started muttering about how everyone was an idiot. They arrived at a classroom that was clean, as it hadn't been used the period before. No blood puddles littered the beige tile floor.
